A new (to me!) cocktail from Harry's Bar in Venice: Buona Notte.

We were watching a travelogue and we ended up at Harry's Bar in Venice where the head bartender, Walter Bolzonella mixed up the drink he created for George Clooney when he was in Venice filming "Good Night, Good Luck." Or course we were intrigued and had to recreate this cocktail and it is truly amazing. Enjoy!

- 1/2 unpeeled lime, diced into small pieces

- a tablespoon of cane sugar

- a strip of cucumber peel

- a ginger round

- 3-4 drops of angostura

- Pestle well, then add:

- 50g of Vodka

- 50g of cranberry juice

- Complete with ice flakes.

Serve in an old-fashioned glass with a straw.

A lovely old fashioned cocktail.

Marg that will work... more, even so though our posts are NT these days...

I grew up in Clooney Land. When George was a tot, his dad Nick, a hunk, was the local newscaster. When I was 12 years old I played in a local talent contest that father Nick was the emcee for. Sister Rosemary was off in NYC no doubt. After I played, he came up and gushed all over me and told me how wonderful I was and that he hoped I would pursue my music. I won first place, I already had Nick's autograph when he came out to present me with my first place award. He looked at me, grinned from ear to ear, winked, and said, "kid, you are going to go far."

Georgie was still in diapers.

Ina Garten says this a lot when she is entertaining her friends and has to go back in the kitchen

to cook something that could have already been done ahead. I think it is kind of a silly comment. Makes no sense really.

i am sorry (and frustrated) to hear that. I believe this has something to do with the text encoding

I noticed that when Richard used the proper spatzel spelling using the non standard English characters this was a problem. When I edited that out, the message was fine. Can you email me the text that you tried to post? That would be helpful

This is a test (I'll write in the message box and see if it works now)

pmassell_93, if you can read this, I can post here smileys/bigsmile.gif

Could it be, that there was something wrong with the encoding of the Buona Notte recipe that I copied and pasted from the blog in the link above?
I have never had that happen before, so I was a little lost there for a minute.

again with the character issue

when I edited the 1/2 the message displays properly...

I'll be AFK for a while now - I need to make a pizza but I'll be back later if you need me smileys/smile.gif
