And, you won't believe what the cooks in the cafeteria served up today...

Mine too!

We had a team of grandma's cooking for us (HS and elementary were in one site, so we all ate there). We would routinely have real roasted and carved turkey with dressing, wonderful baked macaroni and cheese (had to use up that government cheese someway), amazing meatloaf with real pan gravy and REAL mashed potatoes, pot roast and veggies, etc. etc. They even made our desserts from scratch, like chocolate cake and apple crisp.

When I started school it was .15/day, by the time I graduated, it had gone all the way up to .55/day. We never had a french fry, pizza, or any junkfood served there. I guess there is something to be said about going to a little bitty country school, although I have no idea what they do these days.

Colleen, it was a small town in Utah. All of the lunch ladies were gramma-types, and

even though the food got worse as we moved through junior and senior high, at least at the senior high they had a decent salad bar. A huge salad bowl for $1 was a steal, and they had fresh offerings and decent dressing.
