Anyone cook parsnips?? I always thiought them to be one of those bland yuck English....

I have seen recipes for sweet parsnip pie, much like a . . .

pumpkin pie, but I have never made it nor do I have the recipe.

I just add them to the pot when making mashed potatoes. One parsnip adds a little something

in flavor. Two parts potato to one of parsnips, with perhaps some garlic cloves, cooked then mashed with butter and cream just like mashed potatoes, makes a wonderful puree to serve with beef.

Thanks so much for all these ideas.

I'll try out a few soon as I have 4 left over. Charlies one with scallions sounds good as do the roast ones with rosemary, and the bisque one and mashing them with potato, mmm, I'll have to buy more.
I just dont know if we get rutabaggies, dont know what they are, wonder if they are like a dasheen (I have some of those growing in the garden, wonder how they will go with parsnips)
Isn't it such fun finding a veg/food that one never knew before...well not intimately!

went to a wonderful restuarant last night where they serve orange sweet tats made into French fries.

They serve them in a paper cone standing in a twirly metal stand with a drop of truffel oil...sooo good!

I'd never had a rutabaga until last week! They scared me. But the little buggers are tasty!

A Norwegian friend told me she eats them raw, like an apple.

Well, they were a bit too "horseradishy" for me, but we boiled them FOREVER (over an hour) then mashed with butter, salt & pepper.

Very nice to find something new.
