Asap!: Will a 5lb chicken feed 6 or do I need to roast 2?

Tomorrow is my turn to bring dinner to the neighbors, which normally would be the three surviving members of the family and the husband‘s brother who’s staying there. But I see his parents car is there. So that’s means means 6.

I went to whole paycheck and the biggest chicken they had was 5 pounds. My plan was to roast a whole chicken along with whole carrots, whole sweet potatoes, haved onions. and whole garlic heads. Will make a pan sauce. Also serve a bag of salad.

>>> I have another 5 pound chicken in the freezer. Should I thaw and make two chickens or add a side like maybe artichokes?

This is the worst time for me to try to be doing a dinner. I have an infected tooth and it is the worst pain I’ve ever had. I’ve got an urgent care appointment later today, it’s all I can do to not completely bail on this, but considering the circumstances, I really don’t want to be someone who bails.

I absolutely think so. Rotisserie chickens are less than 3 lbs and they can feed easily four.

Also, I'd buy the family package of prepared Yukon mashed potatoes and add a bunch of butter and sour cream to that. I LOVE mashed potatoes with roasted chicken.

Also also, my favorite thing for roasted chicken, per Thomas Keller, is soft butter mixed with Dijon mustard. I can eat half a breast just ripping it off and smearing the butter mix on it. Have it off to the side.

Good luck with the tooth issue.

Oh the now infected tooth has been a long drawn out ordeal, suffice to say this started two days before Thanksgiving and I’ve had to drive to the specialty dental place in San Francisco, which is an hour drive away, multiple times And $34 to park. At least when it started bleeding last night I was already in the er. Ugh. But they gave me the good drugs which I just picked up. Update: Sadly even they don’t work

My store didn’t have the Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, which now I’m annoyed because why don’t they have the good potatoes? I did get several containers of regular mashed potatoes. And I ended up buying a second chicken because I thought well if they don’t need it it’ll be good for leftovers and roasting two is as easy as one. (Glad I’m not serving those potatoes to others bc I ate them for dinner and are way too salty.)

However, the good news is i ran into neighbor coming back from store, they knew I was in the er last night and saw my balloon face and said no way are you making us dinner tonight! (Thank the old gods and new.) So now I can take the pain meds and not worry I’d be too loopy to cook, but now I have 2 raw chickens in the fridge. Hopefully I’ll feel better by the weekend. If not they’ll go into the freezer.

And did I mention it was $15.99, on sale, to buy a whole 5 lb chicken? This is really not fair when the rotisserie chickens are $9.99 and they’re cooked. My chicken is much better with the pan sauce and everything, but still. 😳
