Bakery cake sizes

Has anyone else noticed the “small” cakes sold in bakery counters (for me, that would be Whole Foods, Publix, Ingles) have reduced from 8” to 6” and are now only 4” diameters.

For the same price as before.

(My mind put an explanation point instead of a period because I used to give 6” cakes away like it was Tuesday.)

I get it. You can still serve 4 people a small (albeit very small) dessert from a 4” cake, but I feel this is just another step in a long slide toward accepting a sad reality. I saw a formerly 5 lb bag of sugar that was re-packaged to a 4 lb bag has yet again changed to 3.5 pounds. All for the same price.

I’m waiting for the time when a dozen eggs comes packaged as eight.

Shrinkflation strikes everywhere!

I hadn’t looked as I most often do free pickup for groceries these days, but not surprised. i’ve never made a 4 inch cake, it must be like a glorified cupcake?

I’ve also looked into, but haven’t yet gone to, shopping at restaurant food supply. Has anyone been to a US Foods/Chef’s store?
