1 - Pecan/raspberry waffles for potluck (kind of) brunch at a friend's

2 - Turkey tenders-something for dinner. I feel like being creative, so I don't think it will be just naked and grilled

3 - Going to try the Oreo pie again, this time with proper ingredients

4 - I just loooooove Wegman's macaroni and cheese but it is a little pricey. But it's right next to the tabouleh on the fresh foods bar, that I can't easily make myself, so... Recently found that their soups on the soup bar are very good too, so I see several trips to Wegman's now. They also have an olive/Mediterannean bar, a Chinese food bar, a fresh foods/salad bar, and a hot foods bar. 'Love that store.

5 - Digging out from almost 2 feet of snow - won't stop until next Thursday they say

6 - Looking for another stove (don't ask)

Saturday Six...need caffeine.

1. I will be getting out today, come hell or high water, or snow drifts.

2. I have been teaching my 7-year-old granddaughter how to sew. She was so excited because she had never seen "a real live sewing machine before". She hand-sewed three felt Guinea pigs and today we are going to sew beds, blankets, pillows, a tv and laptops. "Get lots of black felt, Dawnie". She can't wait until Monday, so we are getting together today. She is so cute!

3. Craving teriyaki, so will be making teriyaki chicken tonight.

4. I didn't have fresh basil, so I will pick some up today to make the Mediteranean tuna salad.

5. I convinced my son to read "The Black Stallion" instead of another Goose Bumps book, yay!

6. It is still snowing and we have a heat wave coming our way; 11 degrees today. Uggg! What was I thinking???

I have such fond memories of my grandmothers teaching me to sew, crochet and embroider.

Also of my daddy reading us The Black Stallion before bedtime. Mom was usually the reader as my dad worked nights for a while when I was little. Guess that is why that one stands out so.

Saturday 6 ...Snow in Florida???

1. Wow...that is close, would it ever get so cold we would have snow down here. I have never been in snow!!
2. House is looking so very nice, flowers everywhere and all because of having folk to dinner last night.
3. Feeling pleased that the dinner was good last night as I wanted it to turn out well as I had a capn and 3 others here off a mega yacht. (and my DD's fiancee)
4. Will do this menu again. Salad of pears and spinach with poppy seed dressing and cheese and sage grougers. Pork Belly a La Rueben, butternut and brinjal stacks, broccoli and basmati. (one chap had 3 helpings!!) Pistacho roulade with raspberry cream filling (This was too sweet, imo)
5. Missing my young DD who is back at uni in the cold of the UK...she got engaged the day she left...bittersweet parting....we are very happy for them.
6. The DIET, THE diet, DIET/diet....A diet...what???? ....yes, you, who me?....yes you...oh yes, alright as from Monday....I know I MUST.....Do I have to?..... I have to..... Do I want to?...NO, never! I want to make (and eat) so many recipes....STOP it, right now....think ..IT IS yummy to drink diet drinks, eat diet food and BE Thinner!!! Isn't it?....Um, I guess so!!! Oh Kaaay, I'll start on Monday!!

I know what you mean.

My mother was always too tired and too busy to teach me those things. I had a godfather who we would spend weekends with a lot who was a fantastic cook and his father had been a tailor. He was the one who influenced me the most with cooking and sewing. He had the patience of a saint when it came to teaching children.

Lol Joanie, it would be hard to go on a diet with such good-sounding food that you always make!

Okay, here's what happened

So it worked fine for a few days, beautiful, everthing that I wanted, looks great. Then the burners stopped working, now the oven doesn't heat up either. The lights work, however! And the digital clock.

Talked to the salesman and he is allowing us to exchange it for another brand. I don't want to start out this way... so we're getting some other brand but oh, there are so many choices. Back to square one. I really want a GE that has a time-delayed bake feature, but I can't seem to find one!

Interesting thing that I learned, though, that they make ovens that have a "sabbath" feature which does not permit cooking on the day that you specify, according to your religion. Not that I want that feature, however. Has anyone ever heard of that?

And this is all I want...

electic
white
4 burners
preferably smoothtop, but that's not mandatory
small burners up front!
knobs on top
preferably GE
under $650
time-delayed baking option
self-cleaning
convection would be nice, but not crucial
nothing else fancy needed

and now it kinda has to be purchased at Sears - online or in-store

AAAAAcckkkk!!! How can you all have a 'Saturday Six' already?! I'm still having my coffee...

Makes me feel SO lazy... still in the holiday mode, sleeping in and not getting dressed until noon. And here it is a glorious southern California morning. I should be whipped with that leftover icebox butterhorn on the counter...

Yep. My oven has a sabbath feature. The salesman said

The reason for the sabbath feature is for religions that cannot do any work on the Sabbath. They can set the oven to come on when it is the sabbath without having to do any work. I haven't quite figured this out, because it would mean putting the food in the oven a long way ahead, but according to the salesman, enough people requested this feature that it was included in the package. By the way, I have a KitchenAid oven and love it.

Saturday Six

DawnNYS, I love Wegman's mac and cheese, too. I might have to go buy some now. smileys/smile.gif

1. Went to a party last night at a restaurant; had great little pizzas and some marvelous crab dip. Also, little chocolates for dessert--I could have eaten the whole plate but restrained myself to only one.

2. Came home, went to grocery store. DH bought Newman's Mint Oreo-type cookies. Am trying to forget they are in the house.

3. Made coffeecake at 9pm for brunch today. Usually this is baked in a 9-inch pan, but I decided to make a bundt cake (prettier). Proud that I remembered to put the pecan topping in the bottom of the bundt pan before the dough went in so that the topping would be on top when the cake was flipped over.

4. Went to a brunch today. Such good food! There were some muffins that were like doughnuts--amazing. Wonderful fruit salads, and bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon (my favorite). Oh, also deviled eggs (Liam loved those).

5. Dinner tonight: posole with cornbread. Must remember to make the cornbread.

6. Tomorrow morning: leftover coffeecake for breakfast!

Saturday Six

1) It's been 15F here today (we haven't been over 5F since December 16th!). I talked to the vet who said it's okay to take the dogs outside for a walk if they are accustomed to the cold and that they are moving (as in walking) the whole time. We have been out walking every day since September 20th, so we started the day with an hour outside. Had breakfast when we came home. The dogs got dog food and dried fish. I had a cup of tea and two sweet buns with raisins.

2) I am more concerned about feeding the birds outside than DH those days. We started feeding the birds last fall, and there is no way we can stop during this cold. Imagine my horror when I realized that the stores around here were out of bird food. I called every store in the area and drove an extra 30 minutes to get it when I finally found a store that had bird seeds in stock (I use a wild bird seed mix). We have 30 pounds of bird seeds in the house now, so the birds will be fine. Phew!

3) I am doing the panty challenge these days, meaning I will try to use most of the stuff I have in my pantry before I go major food shopping. I have so much ground meat in the freezer, and I had a lot of milk in the fridge that neede to be used for something, so I made a huge lasagna for DH today. He is thrilled, because he loves lasagna. Little does he know it was made more out of need and not love, this time. Poor man.

4) I am trying not to bake a cake this weekend. I. Am. Not. Baking. Period!

5) Found two pounds of red beets in the basement fridge yesterday. I have never cooked with red beets before. So many options (and no, red velvet cake is not one of them.)

6) No cake this weekend, but then again, what are you going to do when you find 1 pound of pure honey in the back of the cabinet (from Denmark, summer of 2008) and this grest honey cake recipe is waiting in my "to try"-file....

Me too, my granny taught me to knit and embroider, I think crochet was in there too but...

I was very young. Mostly I remember helping her wind yarn, ha ha, helping! Mostly I kept her cat away from the yarn I think... How lovely that you are teaching her, such a nice bonding thing to do with a child.

Hope you take pictures for us!
