Bub is making coconut cream pie today. I found this recipe on Zaar

? Charlie posted a Gale Gand Coconut Pie recipe a while back and the cooled crust was painted...

with melted chcoclate. I have never had success with a Gale Gand recipe. do you think that I could paint the crust for the Cook Illustrated pie that cheezz posted?

Ok. Just for fun: remember the old Gilligan's Island shows where they made...

...such a big thing out of Mary Ann's coconut cream pies?

I watched that show endlessly when I was a kid. I just KNEW I would love coconut cream pies.

Did anyone ever see the cookbook that came along years later? It had a recipe for Mary Ann's Coconut Cream Pie.

Barb, I made the coconut pie that Charlie posted

and it didn't turn out like it should. I forget what I did wrong, but it was very tasty frozen!
I don't think you could do the CI recipe. The chocolate would melt when you poured the filling in,but hey, nothing wrong with chocolate mixed with coconut!

Susan so good to see you! Thanks for the tip on the pie. Guess I would have eventually

figured it out when I read the directions more thoroughly. But, I may just try it anyway, like you said what the matter with a little chocolate in my coconut smileys/smile.gif Stop in again soon!

I think it would work if the filling were cooled before putting it on top of the chilled chocolate

painted base.

Oh...I just pictured an almond nut crust with the painted dark chocolate base and then the coconut filling. It would be like an Almond Joy candy bar....only a mutant 9" diameter version.
