Can I just post a small food rant, because I know you will understand?

Here's what I would do... But keep in mind, I am not at all a baker. I would respond

with how excited you are, blah, blah, and then say that you are kind of bored with the anise cookies, as you have made them recently, but tell her you've got cookies covered. THEN, I would make and decorate large sugar cookies in the baby theme. The cookie cutters with the baby stroller; baby hats, ducks, bears, etc...

When we had our kids, I recall receiving them from an on-line cooke place. They were on a popsicle stick. So special!

Ugh! Sorry! I know how important your niece is to you. Maybe after lil Barb_b is born, you can

make cookies : )

To her credit, bravo for taking on a challenge in a high pressure situation! We all started somewher

e. If a pretty picture on Instagram or Pinterest is the catalyst for getting in the kitchen and flexing your creative prowess, I don't care how good it turns out. I learn best by doing, and was thrown into many situations like this. I'll never forget the host who planned his menu down to a T, and I wanted to contribute. I brought a dessert dish that I researched endlessly, and tried making for the first time. He smiled politely, stuck it in the fridge, and never served it. We've all been suckers for aspirational living and attempting things over our head (hello, I never looked like the cover of Vogue, no matter how hard I tried!). I'm proud of her for trying.

well spoken. I've had to learn not to automatically bring a dessert. Hosts have visions

just like I do and I would throw a curveball at theirs.

True

and here's the but...

I have no problem with anyone doing that, but I just wish they would do so by doing what it takes to make it taste good as well as looking good.

Hence, the Pinterest factor...its not just about how it looks IMHO. I wish folks would also care about how it tastes. Guess I need to invent Tasterest, lol.
