Can someone answer this for me, please? I am in the market for a new stovetop. Not a stove- I have

I'm just gearing up for my KA campaign...

I tried the customer service center, sent them a nice little note about all the problems, told them that "we're so sorry, but I'm afraid your warranty has expired" will be rejected as an excuse. But of course that's what they said.

I will be writing a letter to the president of KA complete with a chronology of the problem and the costs to repair, copied to the KA board, and other high ups,my state attorney general's consumer complaint department, various other consumer protection groups, etc. It will be a full fussilade offensive. I've decided I am not spending one more penny on their faulty product. I've found vast numbers of people on internet consumer sites with the same problem I'm having with the &^#%##&*&^ KA ovens.

Caveat Emptor: NEVER buy a KA oven! They're expertise at mixers does not spill over to the ovens.

3-4 years ago Wolf had big quality control problems because the demand for them was so high and

they couldn't keep up with the orders. Stainless, commercial-looking appliances were the rage and lots of problems were emerging- not just with Wolf (which used to be a commercial stove company that got bought out by SubZero to make trendy residential stoves.) That was the time when I was researching appliances for our house and I quickly shied away from thinking I needed a Wolf stove. Well, the problems and also the PRICE they wanted for a 60" stove puhed me away. Outrageous! I found a commercial stove company (been in business 100+ years) that made a residential model and paid half of what the Wolf would have cost.

I talked to a good repairman about refrigeration units. He told me to get SubZero and me, in my infinite wisdom, ordered the GE Monogram units. One unit is all refrigerator (no freezer) and the other stand alone unit is all freezer (no refrigerator.) Little did I know that the design was faulty. We had them for about 6 months and the drip pans underneath the units would DUMP onto our beautiful Brazilian Cherry floor about every 5 days so there I was with towels and swear words, every few days, pulling out the drip pans and dumping them to save the floor. I went on a campaign with the repair person's help (he is the authorized GE repair person on the island) and I got to the right people at GE. They admitted that the design was faulty and I got them to buy the units back at full price including shipping. It took about 6 months but it happened. I bought SubZero units like I should have in the first place- pretty much the same price but the Subs fit into a smaller space so we had to reconfigure our cabinets. After using both GE and Subs I must say the Subs are FAR superior units. The interior space, the way they work- really good stuff. To GE's credit, they changed their design on the Monogram units so the dumping no longer happens.

Bottom line- talk to the repair folks.

By the way, we bought used restaurant equipment for our little ice cream soda shop/diner. There is no guarantee on that stuff and even if you buy from a reputable dealer you are on your own. Something else to consider is that (for instance) restaurant grade stoves are built different than residential models- the pilot light ignition system is different and there is no insulation in restaurant models so they are not up to residential building code.

that's interesting Cathy, it was the GE Monogram stove that I had all the problems

with. makes ya wonder what the heck they are thinking. nice designs but functional... I don't think so.

did it again :-0 have "you" mentioned.... think I better get a cup of coffe or something '-))
