can't believe next week is the 4th of July. I have to work, so nothing special planned. any plans?

Mine are for July 1. Friends coming over for dinner and harbour fireworks from the balcony.

This place may be miniscule but it sure does have a VIEW!!

Now, what's for dinner.............

My niece and her boyfriend are spending the day and night with us

I feel like the luckiest aunt that they want to. He's such a nice guy - treats her with such respect. We will take the pontoon out and float on rafts (we tie ourselves to the boat). They'll probably also take the kayaks out.

Dinner on the deck and then several on our lake do really BIG fireworks *and* we can see the town's display from our deck too.

Of course DH and I will be long asleep before they are over.....

I used to like to plan things for the 4th, but have had a few crappy ones since moving to NYC.

My brother lives 60 blocks north of us but he and his girlfriend have time only for each other, these days, which makes it impossible to plan anything. And my husband, being Not From Here, is sort of ho-hum about the 4th...so...maybe I'll just live vicariously through you all and your celebrations. smileys/wink.gif

Although there will be coleslaw and macaroni and potato salad, if nothing else, darn it!

lucky folks! did anyone picture Deb and guests lashed to the side of the boat? smileys/smile.gif

Given it's mid-week I doubt any plans are happening. Normally go to the beach

with friends who have a beach house, but since everyone will have to work the next day doubt anything is happening.

We participate in a community concert...

Usually, we're decorating the theater and singing patriotic melodies, but this year we're just decorating...taking tickets at the door, handling the concession at intermission... *Ü* Everything BUT singing!

Does anyone have any ideas for filling a 7' wide expanse of wall that is utterly BARE? I've used all the materials I have on hand and I don't have anything for this darn wall... The stage is done, the Emcee's podium is done...ticket booth is done, and the railings and bannisters of this historic theater are done...

I have about 4 places that could use some kind of display...floral, statuary, whatever that sits quietly (waiting to be stolen?) and looks nice. Then there's that expanse of wall that's driving me bonkers...and the wall behind the refreshment area is just as bad...I'm thinking about a flag and floral piece somewhere. In my mind I'm seeing a small table, a grand piano, and an organ.

There aren't many resources in my boxes of tricks...there aren't a lot of resources in my town. Time is tight, so it needs to be something I can create (have done prom decos in the past, pretty darn creative!) in the next week from easily acquired materials.

I saw a pretty cute fireworks display on a sheet of paper...I find myself trying to figure out how to convert that to the barren wall... I've been on-line searching patriotic decorations for hours...does anyone have any experience with such? I feel like I'm always asking FOR something here! LOL!

That sounds like quite the event! What about big musical notes? Or can you blow up / replicate a

copy of the program? Love the flag idea.

my concoction has been brewing for weeks now. down at the river. get to try it this wkend. woohoo

Are you on good terms w/ local florists/nurseries? smileys/smile.gif Maybe they could lend you a few plants?

In exchange for a sign/whatnot indicating that they donated these for the night?

Or--any friends with potted plants who happen to own pickups and could drop them off for the night?

I think I'd go with the path of least resistance, and a big flag...

Or if anyone has a patriotic-looking quilt you could tack up for the evening on that wall (not recommended at all for very old quilts)?

Good luck! Sounds fun! smileys/smile.gif
