Since I'm a gardener certain plants jump right out at me. Here they tend to bloom early--

around Thanksgiving like your other specimen. If you want them blooming for Christmas you either have to have a cool greenhouse or you buy a new one that was timed for the season.

The menu sounds lovely and comforting!
