Cooking Question of the Day: Do you wear and apron? If so, what kind?

I hope I am not too late to add to this . . . I go BOTH ways . . .

I am definitely an apron wearer . . . I have several favorties on a hook in my kitchen. But, I am also a SERIOUS towel over the shoulder girl. I don't know if I would know how to cook without these!!

My favorite aprons are the plain bakery kinds . . . just white, wrap around the back, tie in the front, though I have an apron that my friends bought me, which is my "that girl" apron . . . it has a little girl with curled hair on the front. I always use this apron when I cater their parties. This year one of my friends had an apron made for me that said, "Xmas chiX 2006." So it's a new favorite, but quite small for an apron really.

I JUST love a good apron, and numerous IKEA towels. So inexpensive you can "use them once and throw them away" but I never do!!

All my T-shirts are permantly splattered. (So are my walls) Too late for an apron there. >>

When I cook for hire I wear a white chef's coat so I also wear an apron to keep it clean. I don't want clients to know what a slob I am right away--they'll figure it out soon enough.

I love my 4-way apron.

I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but it's a good description. It's like a large square dish towel folded in half lengthwise with ties around the waist. When the front gets dirty, take it off and turn backside out. When that's dirty, turn it inside out and start all over. For really messy cooking, I wear it over a full length apron.

My absolute fave is a plastic covered fabric one made by Bovril..

It's a butcher style with a funky/tacky Bovril Chinese Fondue logo on it. I've no idea what the Bovril fondue product is, but I have a particular fondness for it. Besides, a British comedy team called Smith and Jones did a skit on Bovril and it makes my husband chuckle when he sees me wearing it. Anything for a smile...

Depends. Regular cooking? no. Cooking for a crowd??>>

I either wear my very old NY Daily News apron or the very lovely striped twill apron that Keith bought me just before he died. I treasure that apron so I don't wear it that often because I don't want to have to treat it like something I need to get rid of when it becomes too stained. Or I will wear denim my chef coat that my mom bought for me. For work, I wear the icky looking white apron that they launder because I go through about 4 of them a day. I will not go out into the hallway with an apron on, especially when client's are about, so I chuck it into the apron hamper and fetch up a new one when I return to the kitchen.
