I don't see anything wrong with saying, "Actually I'm not serving wine tonight. Come

check out the beer selection, we found a lot of new varieties" then darting off to attend to something. You can keep the cellar door locked.

Really, just because someone is being demanding doesn't mean you have to change your plans.

 
I agree Joe. and, I just can't drink beer, but I would then drink whatever else was served. never

would think of asking the hosts to open wine just for me.
