Diary of a Crazy Woman....or "What was I thinking?" This is a long story.

Bravo Cathy. What a job - loved your planning methods. I think that has a lot to do with success

I really appreciate hearing about your strategy and timeline. I especially love hearing tips

like cutting the cheesecake in advance. So smart! And now I really need to make those parsley potatoes! Elegant. yet easy. Perfect. Thank you!

Par-steaming the carrots too, Traca- and use Yukon Golds instead of small red potatoes

I decided once to use small reds because I thought they would be "cuter"- also tried a mixture of small Yukon Golds and small reds....but stupid. use bigger potatoes- much less work and just as snarfed down by guests. That is what I did this time. Took half the work.

Thanks for sharing this Cathy. I appreciate the timeline and how your oragnized

everything into pieces, including the shopping.

One of the biggest obstacles I have in doing something on this scale is what you pointed out in your experience with your extra refrigerator space - lack of storage space for things prepared in advance. I usually run in to this around the holidays.

Sounds like a great time was had by all!

Cathy, you got me beat! I can do all that cooking...no problem. But have the house ready, too? NO

WAY! When the car is packed and I'm off to deliver for a catering gig, my kitchen is a wreck. Takes me a day or 2 to get it back into a semblance of order. I am definitely NOT a "clean as you cook" person. Ergo, the precise reason for my owning 27 silicone rubber scrapers; 3 Cuisinart bowls & as many metal blades; duplicate bowls & paddles & whips for my KA stand mixer, yadda, yadda, ya. Smile. Sure could not have all those dirty dishes sitting around if I were to have guests in.

So, I admire you GREATLY--what a superb menu & what great planning skills; I already know you're a dynamite cook & baker! I agree with CynUpstateNY--you need a Super Woman outfit.

My guess is that by the time January rolls around, you'll have forgotten all the recent stress and lack of sleep and sign up for another party at your place! Please let us know what you serve for that event. Kudos to you! I'm sure this board will be praising you to the limit for a long time yet to come.

Cathy, you are generous with your assessment of my skills. I can do comfort food...

...for the holiday feasts with a little help from the family, but I have weeks to plan it and nothing much else to do during the run-up to dinner time.

We get between 12 and 20 family and friends to the table on Christmas Eve in recent years. That's down from the time when some of the in-laws were still dating and bringing several friends to dinner with them.

I usually choose a lot of foods that I'm comfortable making and can do ahead -typical comfort foods. You took some risks with your menu that made me shift in my chair when I read your post!

Thanks again for the compliment and for the great post about your dinner party.

Michael

Great tips! I prefer Yukon Golds. Glad to know they're worthwhile in this application. smileys/smile.gif

Your organization was spot on, planning like that really helps, right?

The menu sounds great, will you share the crab stuffed ahi tuna?

fantastic. now I'm hungry.
