Did anyone else see the segment on the Today show about food for serving while Olympic-watching?

I just caught the tail end of it - noticed the Goldschlagger liquer. Fin ideas, I'll have to look it up on nbc.com. Any other ideas for Oylmpic-themed food?

The host was Brian Boitano (sp?) - I saw him skate back in the 80's and he was fantastic. I think he owns a restaurant in SF now, doesn't he?

He had a Baked Vancouver, which was basically baked Alaska, but set aflame---nice.

the later segment with Hoda and Kathy Lee featured Canadian wines and vodka. I took a sick day today and having fun watching daytime shows. Tony Bourdain in Vancouver was very fun.

I'm watching the women snowboarders right now, and not liking the lumberjack plaid look.

for our USA team. it seems way too casual/frumpy for the Olympics. But I'm sure enjoying the snowboarding events in general.

Gotta agree about those awful "uniforms"! But I'm also loving the Olympics!

Loved the emotional Lindsey Vonn last night, and Shaun White's half pipe gold medal! So fun!

I'm watching the gals again right now. Their pants look dirty===just awful choice.

but so fun to watch anyway. Love that Shawn White----maybe we're related smileys/wink.gif

REALLY??!! My daughter came home from Vancouver and took back bottles with her...

She said the choices up there are so sad!

There are at least 92 wineries in British Columbia, each producing several kinds of wine. Not all

would be sold in the local liquor stores but certainly one could find some from Inniskillin Winery or Jackson-Triggs.....both producers of very fine wine. And, certainly the liquor stores carry wines from around the world including some from California.

I did a search on the BC Liquor Board site using Shiraz and came up with 288 matches. Chardonnay.....240 matches. Cabernet......353 matches.

Check out the site yourself.

Also depends which stores she went to. Although they get stock through the provincial liquor board,

each store can select from what's available, and many are limited by size and tastes of the local market. My closest liquor store (in Ontario) has a fairly dismal selection, but if I go downtown to one of the bigger stores, the selection wows friends from Europe. (It wows me, too.) I remember the same range when I lived in Vancouver many years ago.

BC wines win awards internationally, so maybe all the good ones were sold out when your daughter went shopping. smileys/wink.gif

Thanks for the feedback! I sent the link to DD and asked if she was looking 4 something particular.

Luckily, the liquor manager at our local Whole Foods is Canadian and has stocked...

quite a few bottles.

I have been enjoying wonderful reislings, and chards.

Even a nice sparkling wine "Christelle" sp.

The ice wines are spectacular--of course.

Icewine is a dessert wine. Flavor and mouthfeel of Vin Santo, Sauternes, Tokaj, or even a

late-harvest Riesling. Some amazing ones come from Ontario and Quebec. Quebec also does an ice cider or "cidre de glace." California has tried to copy both, but they don't rate, in my not at all biased opinion. And beware dreadful knockoffs from China.

Fantastic, will look for a Canadian ice wine. Thank you for enlightening me and broadening my wine

interests. Will see what other Canadian wines are available here too....thanks so much for the thread.

And maple sugar cookies in the shape of maple leaves... Ang, I can't find the

vidoe (or even a narrative) of the clip at todayshow.com. Do you see it there? Can you link it if you do?

Thanks, anyone. I'd really like to see it.
