We've been spending Sundays testing dogs

and the first week I brought pound cake & nutella sandwiches as snacks for the humans. There wasn't a crumb left. Didn't help that there were two pregnant ladies, LOL.

I have to bring good snacks, otherwise the men folk all want to "run out for food" and don't come back until it's all over. We have approximately 200 dogs to test and we won't get them done if they abandon ship on us!

Next week I've promised to bring graham crackers with frosting. Highfalutin folks we are smileys/smile.gif

Canine Good Citizens

The Marine Corps has put an immediate ban on what they term aggressive breeds in base housing. Dogs that fall into those breed (or mixes there of) categories are grandfathered in ONLY if they pass the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test. (It's a test of manners as well as aggression. No jumping, being able to greet other dogs and people, allow grooming.) Otherwise they must be removed from the bases ASAP. There are already tons and tons of the dogs being abandoned in shelters or listed "free to good home".

So we have until mid november to test them. There is a team of us working under the only evaluator that is authorized to do testing on base.

I know, more info than you wanted to know.

Gee I wonder how my thirteen pound poodle who loves to stand on his hind legs

and greet people as they come in the door would do. He also growls at approaching dogs but when I tell him to "leave it" he does. I can understand the breed part of the concern, but isn't taking people dogs away because they have some bad manners a little on the "big brother" side? Are pet owners given any chances to take the dogs to obedience school? Boy, Cesar Milan could make a life's job out of this.

We are doing classes one night a week to tutor the ones that need it

As long as they don't show any aggression they can retest until they make it.

It is kind of Big Brother, but the member can live off base if he doesn't want to follow the rules. I look at more as a landlord issue, tho. The landlord gets to make the rules and in this case the landlord is the Marine Corps.

OMgosh. grahams with frosting. nice memories. I did this for finals time at the Law Library, and

the students absolutely loved them. I was short on time, and these came to mind. It was tradition to treat them to morning snack during the finals week. somehow I got stuck with the job---go figure! this was back in the late 80s. I wonder if they still do it.
