Do we have an updated TJ's favorites thread? So many things on old thread are gone now...

I don't shop there nearly as much as I used to. Brand name items, like butter/flour seem to be gone. Standard butter is cheaper now at WF. I still get cheese, pot stickers, and some chocolate, but the brand name chocolate I use to get seem to be gone as well.

What are your new favorites, or items you still get there?

Actually thought it might be a blessing to see all the things you aren't missing anymore smileys/smile.gif

Example: Valrhona and Scharffen Berger Chocolate you could bake with - gone. King Arthur flour and Plugrá butter - gone.

I get peaved when they discontinue something I like. It's all sales-driven, of course...

...but I still feel punked when a favorite goes away.

I still miss the Muffaletta olive relish.

Michael

The Bavarian Triple Cream Brie with Mushroom ...gone and come to think of it...

I haven't seen Cambozola for awhile either...

Oh the humanity!

TJ's PLEASE don't discontinue the Bavarian Sausages from Nürnberg! PLEASE!!!

Always on my TJs list...

The Mexican guacamole--5 freshly mashed avocados that taste like avocados, ready to use. I can't get a store bought avocado to ripen anymore, so these are a god send.

Nürnberg Sausages

Seaweed snack sheets --1 carb, 1 gram fiber, free desk drawer snacking.

Flowers!!!

Cheese!

Nuts! Great selection at a great price. We go through pounds of these for healthy snacks.

The Bulgarian Red Pepper/Eggplant/Garlic spread/dip/sauce.

Sunflower Oil--none of my other shopping places carry it anymore.

Frozen wild salmon, cod, shrimp, scallops

When I'm carb splurging--the Dark Chocolate Florentines.

Their selection of Christmas cookies and candies are outstanding and I always go early because they sell out, the chocolate stars from Belgium are TDF! Also the boxed Belgian chocolates (these make great hosts gifts). Also the Pfeffernuesse and the mini dark chocolate stars with the sprinkles. The Lebkuchen is just OK though. I prefer Lebkuchen Schmidt for export. Nothing beats what you can find in the specialty shops in Bavaria though!

On our list, things a bit more plebian than Richard's but . . .

Used to get my Plugra there but they discontinued it, much to my (and my palate's) dismay.

We've been getting our coffee there for decades. Their "Bay Blend" is simply the best coffee I've ever had. It's still affordable, even though the price has been increased by nearly 25% in the past couple of years.

Their marinated Bocconcini are the only thing for making Caprese Salad Skewers.

Their container of crumbled blue cheese is always handy for salads and hors d'oeuvres as is the feta.

They DO have a good cheese selection. Port Salut, St. Andre Triple-Creme Brie and the occasional chunk of Tetilla.

Their Plain Greek Yogurt is a key ingredient in most of my baked goods and anytime I make Raita or Tzatziki

Every Thanksgiving, I buy one of their brined turkeys because the price is right and it's really an outstanding bird.

Both their frozen pie crusts and puff pastry are staples in my freezer. Pie in half an hour!

And while I rarely use their prepared foods, I DO like their Turkey Meatloaf.

Steve - you can get plugra at Surfas. Occasionally a Ralphs (1 in 10) will carry it BUT

it's still cheaper at Surfas.

To name a few: flowers, cheese krispies (like Cheetos),

chocolate chips, pound plus bar,
chocolate covered pomegranate seeds,
Mint JoJos (at Christmas),
triple-cream brie,
cheapest prices on fresh produce like romaine hearts and broccoli slaw,
best prices on ALL dairy products and eggs,
steel cut oats
frozen veggies
nuts and seeds
spices - oh my, their cinnamon is the BEST
baking powder
jams - fresh fruit jams that taste like fruit
Greek yogurt
dark chocolate raspberry sticks
chocolate dessert cups (at Christmas)

A few favorites:

- Pound Plus chocolate bars for baking
- Feta, goat cheese, cambazola
- Pesto, sundried tomato, and cheese layered dip
- Spiral sliced ham. They stock up at Easter and I bought one on sale after. Best ham I've ever had.
- Naan bread--regular or curry
- Lavash. Tear in pieces for dip snacking or...what I love, use it as a flatbread crust for pizza.
- Dried fruits and nuts (terrific prices)
- There's a German sparkling wine--available in red or white--for $4.99. I love it.

Wine, of course. My favorite inexpensive wines are Gaetano D'Aquino Pinot Grigio ($3.99)

and Caves du Tournalet Cotes du Rhone ($4.99)

Coffee--we like the House Blend
Free-range chickens
Sweet Italian Sausage
"Pastures of Eden" feta cheese
All cheeses, actually
All nuts
Rosemary Ham
Prosciutto--the German brand is good and it's reasonable.
Smoked Salmon
Pain Pascale--half-round of organic sourdough whole wheat bread
Butter, milk, cream, eggs
Greek Yogurt
Canned tomatoes
EV Olive Oil
Belgian "Pound Plus" Chocolate
Dijon Mustard
TJ's mayonnaise
Capers, olives, cornichons
Frozen "Seafood Blend" (shrimp, calamari and scallops)
"Trader Jose's" Beer (just like Corona but cheaper)
Avocados--4-pack
Frozen Puff Pastry (all-butter; available only during the holidays.)
Dried Pasta
Basmati Rice
Couscous
Couscous-stuffed fresh salmon steaks
Pork Tenderloins
Canned tuna, salmon, anchovies
Mushrooms--always clean enough to use without washing
Dried herbs

I usually avoid their fresh fruits and vegetables unless I'm in a hurry and will use them right away-- the packaged ones often go bad and the unpackaged ones are expensive. The bagged hearts of romaine are good.

Yes, alas...TJs was cheaper by far. My Gelsons didn't have it but I'll try again

How much do you pay there?
