Do you wash your pie weights?

I just bought some and the package suggests washing after use. I will wash them before I use them the first time but am disinclined to wash them after use. I never noticed the beans getting greasy, even after many uses.

I have a jar of beans I use over & over. I certainly never wash them.

I'd be inclined to wash them. They're porous, no? And sit directly on the dough?

I use beans but they have a layer of parchment between them & the dough. If you use pie weights directly on the dough, I'd imagine they'll pick up traces of butter, which will eventually go rancid. Simple solution? Use parchment.

I use the stainless steel stringed beads, which sit on top of foil so I rarely wash mine. Might

explain the rust stains on some of my pastry.

I will be using parchment, as I did with the recently retired beans.

They are probably porous, I'm not really sure.

I have used both parchment and foil with the beans. My standard now is to crumple the parchment then smooth it slightly before use. I think the crumpling helps it conforms to the shape of the pastry.

I also reuse beans without washing - but they sit atop parchment

I use ceramic pie weights

and I do not wash them after use. They never touch the pie crust as I use aluminum foil on the crust then the pie wts. This way I just lift the aluminum foil with wts. without ruining the pie crust.

I never wash mine. They always go on top of the alum foil anyway.
