I tried a croquembouche ONCE and felt pretty much the same as you

after all the burns on my fingers and hands, I started not to care. I just wanted to get the darn thing done. It was pretty and it tasted good but not sure it was worth the burns.

But I have ben thinking about trying it again - saw a wedding cake made of them and then decorated.
