Dry-for-now Weekend Six

Yes indeed! All the delis/bodegas are staying open, too

On my corner, the guy told me he will be sleeping there, they're open 24/7 usually anyway... but he is setting up camp and the delivery guy is all kitted out in foul weather gear!

OPM said the federal gov't is closed tomorrow and Metro is closed but all we have

gotten so far is some light rain, storm is still well off the coast, it is just HUGH.

But cooking this afternoon was great while waiting for Sandy to move in:

trail mix oatmeal cookies from an old Gourmet annual cookbook

butternut squash soup

beef stew that Charlie posted a while back

chive biscuits from Cooking Light--that means it's okay that I ate 3???

strusel topped pumpkin pie

If I don't have to work tomorrow I will make pumpkin pecan butter......

Weekend 6

- Have a wonderful friend. On Saturday, He was panicked about the upcoming storm and drove to Pittsburgh to pick up a generator. (That was the closest place to find them in inventory). He called to ask if he should pick one up for us. "YES, PLEASE!" Pittsburgh is 8 hours away!!!. I feel like we are in a better place compared to the last storm. We lost power for a week, and it was not fun after day 3. (I lost my sense of humor... ) I hated to throw out all of my food in the fridge / freezer! While we do not know how to use a generator, we will learn!

When I am stressed, I cook. I wish I cleaned...BUT, I don't...I cook. I watch the live footage on TV and cook. (Can you tell I was stressed, when I posted at 4:00 am the other day?)

How I spent my time in the kitchen:

Unfortunately, our stove / oven is electric, so I need to think about how to cook if we lose power. BBQ, Micro, slow cooker are my options... Oh, just remembered I have a panini, the one w/ or w/o the grill marks. (Need to dig that up from the basement)....

Barb, hang in there!! So far things are okay for us, just rain but not too hard, no winds yet...

I am at work, DH drove me since he is DOJ and they are closed. He will keep an eye on things and come get me before it gets too bad. Hope you all do okay!

She passed us by in SC, so I am sending hugs up north! Youse guys in NJ and NYC take care!

My son in Clarendon (Arlington) is working from home. Hope the power stays on for all of you.

Ang, it is delicious!!! It is the recipe from the walnut site (I don't know how to

copy and paste on my tablet!). I used Julia's crust recipe, it is always the best smileys/smile.gif
