Eat like an Egyptian. (oooh-WAAAYYY-ooooooh)

I don't remember telling anyone that my Hubby and I made that trek

but it doesn't matter...I know I did. It was HOT, tight, suffocating and fascinating! Would I do it again? No. But I did it once....You can't do this adventure and not experience everything you can.

is it the water they are washed in? what about the watermelon? is it the rind or the melon inside

that would make one sick? I don't understand that one.

I would love hearing where you are staying in Cairo, what cruise line

you'll be doing for the Nile etc. when you get it nailed down. And when are you going? If I can give any insight I would be happy to help.

I don't think she has - I'll have to go get it for her.

I'll have her do your name in hieroglyphics and send it to you. She is somewhat of an artist anyway so it's pretty natural for her.

You can hire a faluka to take you down the Nile for however long you want...

take food and water, wine and/or beer, whatever. We used to do this with the kids -- a great picnic opportunity, and no sand or flies (unless the wind stopped) and if the wind stopped, which it would do, we would be marooned out in the Nile until it came up again. So, if you take a faluka trip, don't plan anything too close to your return time.

Start reading the fun "Amelia Peabody" series by Elizabeth Peters--almost all based in

Egypt and set during the major years of key archeological discovery (1884 until 1923's discovery of King Tut's tomb).

The books are written by Barbara Mertz, who has a doctorate in Egyptology(?) from the University of Chicago. This woman knows her history and makes it fun, plus she's been named Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America. The dynamics between main characters/archeologists Peabody and Emerson are hilarious...I just love her writing.

The pseudonym "Elizabeth Peters" is a combination of her children's name.

Since reading her books, I have visited every traveling major Egyptian museum show I could find and still want to travel down the Nile.

We are going with General Tours

which limit their groups to 20 or less and they do everything 5-star deluxe. I've heard horror stories of people getting sick on the cheapo Nile cruise boats, and I don't want to worry about anything, so that's why we decided to splurge on the high end tour.

This is the Egypt part: http://www.generaltours.com/tour/?tid=116

In Cairo, we'll be at the Sofitel El Gezirah which is on the south tip of Gezirah island, a hop and a skip from the Cairo Opera House.

For the Istanbul and Paris, we'll just be winging it on our own. Haven't made plans yet, although I'm going to call the B&B we stayed at on our last trip to Paris. Very centrally located on Île St-Louis.

Happy Happy, what a good ifea...the only 'Egyptian' I know quite well is Duhka blend. and...

Ras -el- hanout, well my hips know them well.
Looking forward to your stories from this amazing adventure.
Dont eat any thing that has not been cooked well is what I so often hear...no veg or salad...unless you BUY water in a bottle and wash it yourself.
We have a friend who went to manage an hotel there. They say that they always drink the bottles water (we dont need to here on island.)
Have fun.

I didn't get nearly enough Egyptian food when I was there briefly. It's always been a personal

disappointment as I do love it. So please enjoy for me.

Wonder if you're planning to visit Epheseus when you are in Turkey. That really is worth it. If you've seen Pompeii, this is many thousand times more interesting.

I'm going to check my Egyptian recipe book for my favourites.

this is going to make more lifetime memories for you. Good going!!
