Definitely do not drink the water/eat the produce, and do go in the pyramid, just to say
You've been inside one. I will caveat that advice by saying that halfway down the passageway inside the pyramid is where I discovered I have claustrophobia. smileys/surprise.gif
DH and I went in '97, and had a fabulous time. I am looking forward to going again someday.
I will also chime in against eating fresh produce or the obvious - not drinking the water. DH was so longing for a truly ice cold drink that he made the mistake of having a soda with ice cubes on the cruise ship, against the advice of our guide and his own normally good judgement. He paid a terrible price, and on top of that had an unexpected allergic reaction to the antibiotic our Dr. had prescribed for us to take on the trip for just such a scenario.
We had stroke of luck in meeting a very wonderful cab driver on our first trip of several to Giza. He gave us his card and we hired him for the remainder of our independent travel (we also traveled with a tour group.) He invited us to his home, and it was very interesting to see how he and his family lived and worked.
Make sure to travel with lots of small bills - you will pay a lot of baksheesh (tips or service for everything - even TP at sites like the museums, etc.) And take some small trinkets - ink pens and chocolate candies will make you very popular, if it is the same as when we were there.
