Epicurious has revamped its site. Very unfriendly to us who copy to word processing programs.

I think that was the point

I believe they want us to use their site to save and store recipes rather than save them to our own programs on our computers. It's a nice idea IF your internet connection is reliable and you always have access when you need it. And there is always the possibility they will revamp everything yet again and decide they don't want us to save and store there.

Yep. And that's why I save on my own. I also like to rewrite recipes acc'g to our own tastes.

And I can do my own indexing. My book, however, is getting very very large.

My WP program crashed 6 times today trying to accommodate all their block protects, line breaks and V Advances. I hope this peach pie is worth it.

some info that may be of help...

I haven't seen the site, but having dealt with other similar places that make it hard, here's what I do.

There usually is a print command that will take what you want, the recipe, strip out all of the html gobblety goop, and give you a pretty straight forward text page to print. After you get the print preview, select the text (click and drag your mouse from the beginning to the end to highlight what you want to copy), and optionally cancel the print if you don't want to print.

Then, go to your WPS document and do a paste special and paste only the text with no formatting. In MS Word, the commands are:

Edit | Paste Special | Unformatted Text | OK.

Then, you can manipulate the text as you want. Also, the text will paste into your document using the formatting you have set up, not the attributes of the site.

So if you have your cursor sitting on a paragraph that is tagged with "Body Text" style tag, the text you paste in this way will follow the formatting you have set up for body text in your document.

Hope that helps.

Another problem with the "new"Epi is Drivercleaner...

Many folks computers ahve been "infected" with this program. Not sure if it's some kind of virus, but Symantic views it as such, and tries to quarantine it.
I have emailed Epi about it, and said I would not return to their site until it was removed and I had been notified to that effect.
I have several hundred recipes in my recipe box there, but have saved the T&T ones to my own computer. I'll do without the rest until they do something about that nasty bit of programming.

That's basically what I do. I copy the recipe then go to WORD DOCUMENT- PASTE- THEN- REFORMAT TO MY

Own preferred text which is Arial Narrow and save on my file in word document. It's easier and I don't have to worry about loosing recipes from EPI. I don't like their new format and I agree it is set up to keep your recipe on their recipe file. Just copy, go to word document, on new page- paste and re format to your desired text... I find I can do this from any website I want to copy from. Very rarely I am unable to copy. Hope this helps

Dianne, take another look at my instructions...

there is a big difference between what I said and how you're doing it that could save you a lot of reformatting time.

Richard, I've never tried the unformatted text copy. Can't believe I didn't know

about that. And must try. Thank you. I've been going through just deleting all the junk from the Print page, which is easy to do with WordPerfect, but I hope your system will work. Easier is better.

YIKES!! It worked. Oh so simple. No text boxes or graphics, no silly codes. This week has been

worthwhile already. And it's only Monday. Thanks Richard. Again.

Rich, I am not too sharp on this, what is it that I can do to save time? Sorry I don't understand

IF I"m reading your post correctly, you are doing the same as I have been. You copy to clipboard by

highlighting everything on the print copy page. You get boxes and junk you don't need plus a lot of formatting that is just a pain.

If instead of just "pasting" (or CTRL V if you use DOS commands) you do "Paste Special" (which is probably a command that you have had to use for more complex copying), then select "Unformatted Text". You will get nothing but the text.

It was so successful, when I just now did it, that it needed no formatting whatsoever.

Of course, I can never just leave it at that. I always go bolding some things, and cranking up the font size to as much as will fit on one page only. Full Justifying and yanking the margins out allow me to get large old person's text on one single page.

I'm not suggesting that the old person is large, just the font. The old person is definitely

getting there though.

Thank you, and Rich too. I just did a test run on a copy and it worked GREAT smileys/smile.gif

I keep locking up when I try to open a post. Can someone relay that to them? I can't even get to

where I can tell them about it. I have ie and it locks up and I get "program not responding" and I lose internet connection.
