Life has thrown a lot of small annoying punches our way that have kept me really busy and not had much time to even lurk here at FK. BUT you were all in my thoughts and at my table when we had our Christmas dinner. I raised my glass to you all.

The final punch that really had me worried was the 2 total power failures just as I was stuffing the by now room temp. turkey and stuffing.

After the first power failure was over I rushed to the computor to re-read the quick cooking method of the turkey and was skimming through FK and just couldn't find the thread as well as trying to use the blender for all the other things I needed to do.

Just over an hour later the second one occured and this lasted for at least an hour and a half. By this time I was worried I'd make everyone horribly sick.

Anyway I brought the oven back up to 375* and put in the turkey and cooked it till the meat thermometer read more than (Meat Stuffed)......

and we are all still absolutely fine...must have been the whisky I used.

Wonderful recipe that turned out well.

Posting it next.....

We had 14 to dinner, not the 20 expected but that made for a more intimate gathering and we also had a 2 1/2 year old...doesn't the mere lighting up of the little one's eyes just give Christmas all the more meaning of wonderment.

Christmas day I took a break (we had entertained for 4 nights in a row) and we went to an island close by on the local ferry and had oysters, lobster and champagne and celebrated Christmas French style in the most relaxed and decadent way possible.

Wooo-Hooo!

Christmas night more people popped over (I was rather over the top booze wise by this time)really ready to bury my head in my pillows but second wind and all....

I made turkey broccoli soup, smoked salmon crepes (although I learnt something interesting...in Russia, where one of our guests comes from...the large thin 'pancakes', as we call them and are called 'crepes' in France...are called BLINI in Russia. They dont have small round thicker 'blini'...I can't remember what she called those)

Oh, well we had smoked salmon 'blini' with the trimmings, fresh arugula sald (from the garden) and then a delicious fruit mousse cake that they brought.....

Boxing day brought 3 open house parties we attended.... Wooo-Hooo (AGAIN)and today I have guests flying in for a few days.

I think that by "Tweede Nuwe Jaar' we will all be rolly-polly balls, you'll just see my feet, hands and head stuck out of a round ball...should I wear striped clothing to enhance the round effect?

So to EVERYONE I wish you a wonderful Happy, Safe and Healthy New Year.

Hugs

So glad to hear from you and of your festivities....

Sounds wonderful!

Our 3 year old granddaughter made everything so fun this year, so I know what you are talking about with the wonderment, etc. They are so full of excitement and joy! smileys/smile.gif

Thanks for posting - was so fun to read!
