I was so disappointed with the crème brûlée DH and I shared out at dinner last night. Only the flavor of the caramelized sugar was tasted, overwhelming the too-thin layer of custard. Aren't the flavors supposed to support each other? Definitely the custard should have been thicker (or the sugar crust thinner) but I'm thinking vanilla was missing. Any thoughts? Colleen

 
I agree with sometimes lackluster "creme". The best bruleed dish i had was a rice pudding

concoction with some candied orange peel mixed in. it was scrumptious.

 
Creme brulee is a default dessert, and usually a good indicator the resto doesn't have a pastry chef

 
Best creme brulee I've ever had is the butterscotch brulee from the Herbfarm. Recipe in the archives
