FRC snark alert: I'm tempted to start a really snarky thread about cooking show pet peeves. Reason?

Ahhh, the salt. I thought it was just me. Ina Garten liberally salts and says salt adds lots of

flavor. At that point, it just makes it salty. But I admit to being a bit sensitive to lots of salt.

Charlie, who is the NY / NJ guy; used to have a pony tail. I believe he was off the air for a while

And now back on. I do not get to see him often. He is so matter of fact and knowledgable. I enjoy how he does the behind the scenes and then recreates dishes in his home. I like his attitude. Do you know him? I know he is a local guy.

Edited to say that I believe he used to recreate dishes in his own kitchen, now, when I have seen it, it looks more like a staged kitchen.

He's probably saving ammunition, you know, like the end of a big show of fireworks... smileys/smile.gif

Now I am on a roll...I also hate it when they tell me "WHAT YOU NEED TO DO" is...

I have turned off the TV so many times because of this. Our friend with fancy matching curtains does it, but there are a few others. Julia had such class in suggesting,"You want to.... make sure.....".

I hate feeling like I am back in school and being lectured....

OH!! And I hate it when they over do their cuteness to being a couple.... (Can you tell which show I turned off recently!) Great recipes, but I do not need to hear you say sweetums and sweetie pie.

I think I am done. I appreciate the therapy session! I feel better. ((Now, what is that guys name w/ the NY accent....??))

And "sammys" and "delish" and "yum-o". All in the first five minutes (which is why I can't watch

more than five minutes of her)

RR kills me with her cooking times.

You know half of her food is raw when she "presents". Seriously...she uses the biggest chicken breasts or pork chops you've ever seen, then doesn't even put them in until 10 minutes into the show so they get all of 12 minutes in the oven or on the stove. And we are supposed to believe they are cooked anywhere near done.

Are you thinking of Michael Lomonaco? Although I never saw him with a ponytail He did a show that

looked as though it was his kitchen. I always liked him. He was the head chef at Windows of the World when the trade center was hit. He would have been at work when it happened but he had an appt. or something like that.

I think you're thinking of Michael Colameco. He used to go to a NY restaurant

then he would go back to his kitchen (tricked out by Viking) and try to create a dish based on what they had showed there. It was a fun show. Not sure if it's still on. He used to have a ponytail, but the last time I saw the show, the ponytail was gone.
Either him or Mario Batali. Also NY guy with ponytail. smileys/smile.gif

How about cooking segments on shows like Today and Martha? They drive me nuts!

Disclaimer: We don't have a tv, so my consumption of said shows occurs in the laundromat. Still, the fact that the food segments are cut to, cut from, and whipped through so quickly (and with such obvious lack of care for the process) makes my eyes cross. What's the point of showing people how to make something if you can't give them eight minutes of airtime to do it...on a four-hour-long show?! (I'm looking at you, Today show.)

Martha is slightly less culpable, but only when it's her food discovery/recipe, not a guest's.

there's a ponytailed guy on the Victory Garden as their chef. I miss the old Victory Garden smileys/frown.gif

I hate when they talk to their food like it's a cute child. Burrell does that all the time - can't

watch her.

Mo, that is it... Just did Google search on both M's.. I love his passion for food & flavors

I have not seen his show in a while, but he really is the opposite of EVOO... Thanks C1 and Mo for tracking him down. I really enjoy his matter of fact cooking.
