Friend's birthday on Sunday, need to bring him a gift, what's your fav food gift (that can be made

Found it; if you search under Dip Mix; I believe Traca, Dawn and Ang as well as SuxieQ

all referenced this recipe for Carraba's. It is worth looking at their individual posts, because they provided some creative ideas to pull it together.....Also noticed that LindaBarbara had a good question re: garlic...

Carraba's Italian Dip Mix (Sue Z Q's note: my boys call it Sacred Oil)

Mix: 1 T. crushed red pepper
1 T. black pepper
1 T. dried oregano
1 T. dried rosemary (I used this in one
recipe, & not in another - both are good)
1 T. dried parsley
1 T. garlic powder
1 T. garlic - minced
1 tsp. salt

Grind together & put 1 T. of mixture on a
plate. Pour extra virgin olive oil over &
mix. (I used regular olive oil) Dip crusty
bread into the mixture. Its to die for.

I think I might do a basket for them. My friend doesn't cook and neither

does his wife. I'm trying to encourage them but you know how it is. And if it's not organic his wife won't touch it at all. It's too bad because these ideas you have come up with are really cool! Can we save a string like this in T&T for gift suggestions?

I like the idea of making a caramel or chocolate sauce but am feeling tentative in the kitchen these days, my confidence has deserted me. But I will gird my loins and give it a shot. There are lots of these I'd like to try but had an unexpected expense and can't go shopping for anything until the end of next week. My pantry is loaded though, I just attended the Fancy Food Show and have enough stuff from that and others to put together something fun. Maybe if I make something and then add it to the basket? I also have a cute empty basket that I was going to put yarn in....

I will let you know.

I am so grateful to you guys, I really appreciate your help and thoughtfulness. (((hug)))

Heather, I have a foolproof, easy recipe for caramel sauce.Do you want me to post it? Also,

Marilyn's Dylexic Chocolate Sauce is always a success, and is unreal - it's so good, you may not want to give it away! I can post it, along with my notes - it's better to use a scale with this one, just for weighing the sugar.

Oh, and I have a great recipe for chocolate truffles - very easy.

Let me know if you want any of these recipes. smileys/smile.gif

Here ya go: Caramel Sauce

CARAMEL SAUCE

From the poster: "You can use this on so many different things. By adjusting the cooking time, you can make it as thick as you like according to what you are going to use it on. I like to make it thicker to use on ice cream and thinner for desserts. I often double the recipe so I have some left over for later."

* 3/4 cup butter (I used unsalted)
* 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar (I used light brown)
* 2 tablespoons water
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 cup evaporated milk
* 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1. Combine butter, brown sugar, water, and salt in a medium sauce pan, over medium heat, stirring constantly.
2. Bring to boil for 3 to 5 minutes depending upon thickness desired. (I boiled 5 minutes).
3. Remove from heat and stir in evaporated milk and vanilla. (My note: chill if you want a thicker consistency).

2 1/2 cups (My note: made about 1 1/2 cups).

Thanks Meryl, foolproof is good! I will give it a try, it's always nicer to include something home

made right?

I am a bit under the weather and stressed and I don't think I can do much in the kitchen right now but this I can do!

xoxo
