Fruitcake - is there such a thing as a good one? What gifts are you starting/thinking to make now?

I rec'd these from a neighbor 2 years ago. What a thoughtful gift. It was fun, because I thought

of her every time I looked at the flowers (And occasionally watered : ) ).

Grandma Jo's Fruitcake

I make two of these every Christmas. My whole family loves it!!!

FRUIT CAKE

2/3 c. butter
1 c. dark brown sugar

Add:
2 eggs

Add & mix well:
2 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. cloves
½ t. nutmeg
½ t. salt

Then add & mix:
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. chopped dried pineapple
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. dried cherries

Blend in:
2 c. warm applesauce with 2 t. baking soda and ½ cup blackberry brandy.

Pour into greased tube pan. Decorate with candied cherries.
400 degrees 10 minutes, 350 degrees 1 hour.

Cool. Double wrap with plastic wrap. Pour ½ c. Blackberry Brandy over cake and then wrap in aluminum foil and store in container in refrigerator. Every week flip fruitcake.
