Good grief. Can someone please explain to me what the hell just happened to my smoothie.

As per usual, I over-bought fruits and veggies in an attempt to eat healthier and some were going bad because I didn't feel like strawberries anymore. Or blueberries. Or mangos. I wanted cheese popcorn. So I ate cheese popcorn because I'm 66 and who's going to stop me.

Anyway, I realized I could buzz up a smoothie and freeze it. So into the Vitamix went the following items: (Pay attention. There will be a quiz later)

Half a quart of fresh strawberries

Half a 2" tall clamshell of blueberries

1/2 C of pomegranate juice

Juice from half a navel orange while I ate the other half

1 C of Fage Total yogurt (full fat)

4 Splenda

It was thick and creamy and tasty and I had a small 8 oz glass. Then about 10 minutes later I decided to have a bit more. I picked up the Vitamix canister and noticed that the smoothie seemed thicker. In fact, it didn't move. This registered as ODD because smoothies are, by definition, liquid and liquid tends to move. They're like that.

I gave the canister a shake and things...shimmied so I set down my glass and poured.

Then this HAPPENED:

As some of the smoothie poured into the glass, the remaining avalanche of berry smoothie gained momentum, sloshed down the side and splatted onto the counter. IT ACTUALLY MADE THAT EXACT SOUND:

SPLAT!!!

Then, while I stood there shocked, it moved of its own volition as a gelatinous magenta-colored blob across the counter, like it had a life of its own and SLIDE DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CABINET where it SPLATTED onto the floor. I swear to God, it was like one of those alien creatures from Doctor Who.

There has got to be an easier way of getting anti-oxidants that don't involve washing Vitamix blenders, counters, cabinets, and floors.

I think it has to do with the blueberries making it thick when they sit awhile. Pectin perhaps?

Sorry for the mess you had to deal with. I saw something like that happen with frozen margaritas. The blender container had sat awhile and the frozen was at the top so when someone came and poured without whirring it first, the icy part came cascading out all over everything.

Ha=ave had that happen too...back when I was

making smoothies daily (no longer do smoothies)....what I found helpful was to give a quick pulse in the Vitamix or blender and it all came back together...if still too thick to your liking add a touch more liquid. Yogurt may have been a contributor to the thickening.

M, I must say you have the MOST INTERESTING things occur whenever you are in the kitchen! Thx for

my laugh this morning....in my mind's eye your smoothie took on a life of its own as it slowly propelled itself across your countertop to plop squarely onto your floor.
