Goodies to mail decidedly not Christmas/Holiday related?

Every year I ship “Christmas cookies, aka a sugar bomb” to my sister’s for the holidays. So other than chocolate chip cookies, I want this to be decidedly different.

My brother-in-law unexpectedly died this week (in his sleep) and the plan is a delayed service in late summer or fall. Meanwhile, I’d like to do something and it would be very auntie of me to send food vs flowers. But what to make?

I’m thinking cc cookies are a must, then maybe brownies, lemon cookies, banana or some other bread? Pan De Muerto? Maybe try to make hand pies? Cherry pie was his favorite dessert. Normally they are a healthy try to avoid sugar, some are vegetarians kind of household. But grief requires some snacks imho.

Any thoughts?

I am so sorry for your loss, Maria. Do they live far from you? Wondering how long the box might be in transit.....
Given their tastes, I'm thinking maybe more savory treats, although it would be hard to resist a brownie or biscotti. Wondering if any of our swappers have made these: I've attached a recipe that gets great reviews on ATK for savory scones.
Maybe dried cherries in biscotti as a nod to your BIL.....

I’m in Northern California and they are in Southern California. I always ship cookies to them 2-day, as overnight is extremely expensive.
