Got a good idea for hostess gift, gift baskets, kids, etc.... homemade caramel apples!

I've been making these and I've got to say that of everything I make, these ((and the cranberry bliss bars) are my most requested. It's nice to have something sweet, but feel like you're not being too decadent since it's wrapped around an apple. I have so much fun with these and the kids (AND adults) just go GA-GA *g*

I use GayleMO's caramel recipe (the BEST caramel recipe), replacing 1/3 of the white sugar with brown sugar.

The OXO apple cutter/corer works great to cut them into 8 pieces and they look pretty on a plate. The green apples take a long time to oxidize, so they stay fresh looking for a few hours.

Cheezz, those really interest me, but how exactly are you preparing them?

Are you dipping the slices in the caramel?

put a wooden stick in the top center of the apple, the dip completely in caramel

hold the apple up and slowly swirl it around to let the excess caramel drip back into the pan, then place it on parchment. Don't use waxed paper - it sticks. Before the caramel fully sets, you can roll the apple in nuts, sprinkles, crushed cookies, etc.
Or you can dip it halfway in melted chocolate, then in the decorations. Chill them until you're ready to cut them up. I have one of those nifty apple slicers that cores and cuts it into 8 slices quite nicely. If I'm giving the apple whole as a gift, I'll do the whole nine yards - caramel, dip in chocolate, dip in nuts, then drizzle all over with white and dark chocolate. Tie on a bow and you're all set!

Ah... a man after my husband's own heart... notice it went thru the SIDE of the apple smileys/smile.gif
