Hard boiled eggs--Trader Joe is now selling a package of 10 hard boiled

A note about Slow Food (brought to you by ...)

Slow Food, the official movement, is far from dead. But it also has nothing, zilch, nada, niente to do with time. Braises and crockpots are NOT Slow Food, they're slow cooking. Slow Food is all about the quality and provenance of ingredients and the traditions and care taken with preparing them. (And a bunch of other stuff; see link.)

The name is often misinterpreted in North America, unfortunately. In Europe, what it means is instantly recognizable. Small towns and villages there have Slow Food festivals to foster and promote local foodways and foodstuffs.

My Little input here...at one of the dock bars here on island they sell boiled eggs. These are...

kept in a bowl out on the counter for a couple of days as they sell them. They have made no-one sick and dont seem to really go off.
Now I can't bare the thought of buying one but as the dock workers buy a croissant and egg each morning and don't seem to come to any harm I started to put a little thought into this.
Firstly: when I collect eggs from my hens it is not always that same day they are laid. Never had a bad egg yet.
Secondly: hens sit on their eggs for quite a few days until a whole clutch has been laid, then she sits on them full time and all hatch at the same time...they don't go bad and the heat here is sooo bad.
Thirdly: when I leave boiled eggs in their shells in the fridge they last 2 weeks or so but when I peel and keep boiled eggs in a zip-lock they go off by that week end.
Don't know what all this means other than I guess if no one buys the eggs at TJ's there is going to be a lot of egg salad for sale!

I totally agree about TJs

love the store and shop there frequently, but you really have to be careful. Bad veggies, moldy cheeses, and the packaging for the frozen fish that usually isn't sealed by the time everybody rifles throught the case. Now there are just things that I don't buy there, and some things that I inspect very carefully. Frequently find product dates past the expiration point too.

Wow - I guess I'm lucky the staff is so conscientious at my store -- I've never had anything bad.

Cheezz, would that be the one on La Brea and 3rd? When I go in there after work the shelves are

practically empty! They can't seem to stock it fast enough. I don't think anything has time to go bad there.

I've never had any issues, either - the only ones I've had are with them being out of something,

or not carrying the fresh lasagne noodles (sob).

Now at my local Ralphs, I always have to check exp. dates - it makes me very irritated.

Today at my market, I saw them selling all ready baked potatoes wrapped in foil, with the marketing

phrase "ready to grill", they also had "pre-soaked corn-ready to grill" and cut up veggies, you got it "read to grill". accckkkkk!

That's SO west-side, LOL. I'll check it out when I'm in the area. The one I was referring to....

I've never seen a zoo quite like it. They're so slammed by 7:00 or so, I can see by their weary smiles that they're just hanging on until closing. They are, literally, out of everything. And this after I wait 15 minutes for a parking space.

I now just brave the horrible traffic and finish the day at my local Long Beach TJ's.
