12 eps total, actually. There are 2 "pilot" eps, one that Joss Whedon...
...filmed as the pilot - that Fox decided was too serious - and the second ("The Train Job") which actually aired. People differ on which they prefer as the pilot episode, but I prefer Joss' choice of "Serenity" (which IMDB has listed as Season 1 Episode 11). Here's the IMDB link for the episode list:
