I eat anything but Asian as I am allergic to soy. Any ideas for casual to one nice dinner out? (We will have a kitchen so will pick up some things anyway.)

These are our favourites:

PALM DESERT:

Tommy Bahamas – while shopping on El Pasaeo stop into Tommy B’s rooftop restaurant for sangria and a salad or appetizer. The birds are a bit annoying – but it’s fun. Needs to be good weather though. Kind of fun shopping downstairs. Some kitschy stuff – check out the ashtrays!

Pacifica – fish – outdoor restaurant

Mama Gina’s middle of El Paseo - good for lunch & dinner

Jillians end of El Paseo - expensive - and excellent. try to sit outside

La Spiga

RANCHO MIRAGE:

Wally’s (very high end) old waiters – stuffy – great food! Very old P.Springs.

Bing Crosby’s - great cocktails. V. good food as well. Quite expensive.

OLD PALM SPRINGS:

La Vallauris – a lovely garden restaurant (the inside looks very old)

Dead too. Sadly so is Ladd Hardware and Gifts, my favorite place in PS

it was a cross between a hardware store and Neiman Marcus (really!) started by the actor Alan Ladd.

Back, with short report

There was a Bristol Farms store close by so we got a quiche, olives, cheese, crackers and wine for general use. Had a very good meal at Pacifica in Palm Desert one evening, and a yummy breakfast at Wilma and Frieda' s. Also had a tasty fat half-sandwich and soup combo for lunch at Sherman's Deli. Ate at Kaiser' s Grille in Palm Springs next to the Thursday night street fair. Food was just OK, but perhaps that was because we ordered the early dinner menu for $19. I threw out my leftover pasta.

Activities: Checked out some stores on El Paseo, picked up two driving maps of architecturally interesting homes and buildings, went to the PS Art Museum, and street fair on Thursday. Did not take the tram up San Jacinto as it was having actual weather up there, while we were dry down below. And I took a nice nap one day, and read and read and read.

Goodie for my birthday - a #30 Creuset pot from the Cabazon outlet. It will be used for the first time tomorrow! smileys/smile.gif
