Help! I just found out I'm going to England to deliver our application!

After a year of continuous OT, constant changes, and non-stop weekends for our team, my manager can't make the delivery to the UK MoD in October. So I'm going instead!!!

I'll be doing the acceptance test from Oct 16 to 29. Then I asked I could stay over there for a vacation, which means I would pay for room/board travel myself at that time.

Larry will fly over and we're thinking 1 or possibly 2 weeks, IF I can afford London for 2 weeks!!!

I was in London for 2 days in 2005, but that's it. So I would love and appreciate any and all suggestions about places to stay, traveling by train (neither Larry nor I feel comfortable renting a car there), things I MUST see! And how I can possibly afford London for 2 weeks.

I'm so excited I couldn't sleep. Of course, why should that be any different from the past 12 months.

Thanks!

WhaaaaHooooo Well done.....

I have some places you should try to see/eat...Al Hamra, a Lebanese in Sherpard's Bush..love it there....my DD was just treated to staying at the new hotel "The Landmark" for the past week, lucky gal!.....
I'm so excited for you...want to be there with you. Was in London 2'ce last year....
My serious suggestion is to have an itinary worked out and try to stick to it but have enough free time to wander off on an adventure before getting back to your must do/see list.

How awesome, and well deserved. Perhaps Sandra can offer some advice.

We found it incredibly easy to get around London via public transportation, no car was needed, and by train outside London to areas of interest. Budget accommodations were plentiful at the time. The most incredible Indian food I've ever had was in London. Will try to remember the name of the restaurants and report back.

Yay! I know several folks in London; what's your budget for accomodations?

You might want to think about renting an apartment for a week or so--might end up being more affordable than a hotel, plus you could cook some of your own meals. It's more affordable to go out to lunch and cook your own dinner.

You absolutely must to see the food halls at Harrods. Amazing.

I've never been there but my father went. When he went he said it was very

safe, but other than that, I don't know any places to stay or see. Have a great time!!! If you travel to Gloucestershire (a little ways to the west of London), I think I could help you there a little bit.

Especially watching the ducks and swans.

Also, beautiful flowers and green, green grass.

Here is what we found.

First of all, London is expensive. You can sometimes get some pretty good deals on hotels at hotels.com. We really enjoy staying in South Kensington.

There is a restaurant/bakery called Patisserie Valerie where you can get fantastic pastries. They also have reasonable meals here. There are several of these patisseries around town. Our favorite is the one on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge.

We really enjoyed the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace. I think it is on Sundays at 11:00 am. It's quite a show.

Don't miss Harrod's food court. Also, Fortnum and Mason. We got hooked on their Royal Blend tea.

Covent Gardens - You can get 1/2 price tickets for many of the shows. There is a booth in the area for same-day tickets.

London Eye is fun - great view.

British Museum, Tower of London, Science Museum, Burough Market.

Walk across the Millennium Bridge to see the Globe Theatre. That side of the Thames is fun.

Take the double decker bus and just explore the city. Sit on the top deck and you will get a great tour.

Thornton's Candy - we love it!

Take the boat to Greenwich and stand on the international date line.

Thanks everyone!. I'm taking the leap and shooting on 2 weeks.

I have a month to plan, but had to give a return date ASAP for my plane ticket.

Now to bed...been up since 2:45 a.m.

Splennndid my dee-ah!! How about a side trip to Windsor Castle? I've been

there as a teen and I especially remember the beautiful peacocks that roam the grounds. I went with my family in a car but I've found a link for a London Pass (I'm not familiar with it) that can help you get there by train in 30 minutes.

See the interactive London map at the bottom left of link.

Oh Mar, you'll have a marvelous time! You can also enjoy bangers & mash, fish & chips, English breakfast, tea and bisquits........
