Yikes. So I was mixing some pizza dough on the lowest setting. And yes it was struggling...but we've made it before so I thought it was okay. But obviously not because it 'stopped'. When I went to check it yes - there was smoke.

Ummmm....anybody know how costly it is to repair? Am I better off just buying a new one? My birthday is coming up....(but this one is only 5 years old). Oy...I'm never going to hear the end of this from DH:)

That doesn't sound good!

I don't know about repairing them--anyone have any experience with that?

That's a big bummer. I would contact Kitchen Aid and get their

advice. When mine was a little over a year old it died and they sent be a replacement - free of charge. I think something is going on with mine too as the last time I used it when I turned it on it didn't do anything for a few seconds and then finally started mixing.

Good luck

Here's the funny thing:....

I'm feeling high anxiety over the situation. Not that the machine was smoking, I could have started a fire, yadah yadah.....

But that I might be a day, g-d forbid a weekend, worse yet a week or two, without it. Heck, if it wasn't just noon, and I didn't have lots to do, I would pour myself a drink. Of pure Vodka. Hold the rocks. Then pour another one:)

Deb-I am so sorry for you! I know exactly how you feel, it would be as if someone

took away one of my limbs! I would call KA customer service right away. I am sure they can help you. There is probably an authorized repair shop near you.

Jerry found a place in Ann Arbor (40 minutes south of us)...

we are going tomorrow. Still - the thought of being without it is raising my blood pressure:)

I wonder if there are any 12-step programs out there...

Many moons ago my almost new KitchenAid fell apart

Literally. Things just started falling off of it while it was mixing. I called the company and they quickly sent me a new one and the UPS man waited while I used that box to send back the broken one. Turn around was about 2 weeks but they were oh, so helpful and that one is still going strong.

That must have been disconcerting. I wouldn't have been surprised at smoke a time or two when I was

kneading bread dough, but can't imagine it falling apart! Must have been built on a Monday by someone who had a rough weekend.

Ticks ya off, doesn't it?!

I think there may be a comment about what it can do on low speed, in the manual. And it doesn't make sense, if you have something that has to be done 'slowly', like dough, that you can't use the slow speed, yet you are supposed to be able to do dough.

Did you have whole some wheat flour in there?

When I smell the machine, ever so slightly, I shut it down. So you may be able to let it cool off and get it going again. If luck is with you....and I hope it is.

Coincidentally I burned out my Cuisinart FP last night shredding gruyere smileys/frown.gif

It's about 5 years old. It may be salvageable, the stem that holds the grating disc smoked and melted. I may be weighing the Bosch vs Cuisinart again. My first reaction was the same as yours, what am I going to do without one??!! Giants Super Bowl weekend!! Pure panic!!!

ISO: lorijean, Barbara in VA, and desertjean: I call KA and they are sending me a replacement!

Thank you so much - they are sending me a replacement FREE. The only thing they ask is that I return mine (the busted one) in the box the refurbished one is coming in...and they are including a postage-paid return label. You can't beat that! I would never have even thought to call them (I forgot about the warranty) - so thank you so much.

They said it will arrive in 2-4 weeks - I'll just have to figure out how to handle life in the meantime:) (without relying too heavily on alcohol and drugs)

Great, I had mine newer one for several years when it just quit, KA replaced it, no questions.

Yay!! good news. Deb, you can mix bread dough in the FP if you have one.

Did you make all your cookies yet? I can see where you might be in pain over those. I have had success with cookie doughs in my FP too. Maybe experiment with a small batch.

Great news!! It is wonderful to have such great Customer Service when you spend so much for a

product! I am sure that you will always, (rightly so) recomend KA! I am so pleased for you!!
