HELP. I think I just burned out my kitchen aid mixer...smoke is coming out...

Oy - I forgot about that. I still have 100 to go. Your right - I'll make it in smaller batches...

although I'm really thinking that I could use 2 KA's - don't ya think?smileys/smile.gif

What's a FP?

Deb

Actually - I was so impressed with the CA representative even BEFORE she told me I was to receive a

replacement. After we talked I asked to be transferred to her supervisor and I told him 1) I was very impressed with what a pleasant CS rep she was, and 2) I was very pleasantly surprised with their generous replacement offer.

I typically email/write letters when service is really good, as well as when really bad.

Deb

Is it me, or am I seeing a lot of folks here that have had to replace their KA?

Even though it's "free" it sounds like you are getting a refurbed replacement?

I was thinking the same about the number of replacements, and it seems to be ones sold about

five years ago?? might be interesting to research?
I guess if they have found the problem and are refurbishing them--it's o.k.????
I sure love mine though.
Nan

I just marvel at what you cook in a galley, Nan!!

Still haven't taken the plunge yet. I don't bake or make enough dough to make it worthwhile. maybe I would if I had one. smileys/smile.gif

Actually, there're tiny ones with tiny ovens and some like restaurant kitchens. Funny though I love

to knead bread and do pie crusts by hand. And, discovered that a potato ricer makes spuds from heaven!!
I must say I use a mixer mostly for cookies and cakes.
The KA I refered to here is at home and obviously gets little use, am gone 8+ months a year.
But was so glad when they came out with 6 quart, 5 was too small and the smallest commercial was 10.
But you gotta love KA's customer service

Hey Deb, that's great news! I am impressed with KA to for doing that.

I wonder if Nan is right about problems with 5 year old mixers. Mine is from 1992 and, knock on wood, I have not had a minutes problem with it. I think I have gotten my full moneys worth out of it (it was a $299, a lot for me at the time, and I had a $25 off certificate and an extra 10% discount on top of that!)

About your question of owning 2....I don't think that's unreasonable for as much as you use it...I think it would be a very happy indulgence. Hmmmmm, food for thought!

My really old Kitchen Aid has overheated and stopped, but

according to the manual it's supposed to do that. After it cools off, it's fine again. If I recall, there was a button that popped out on the side, and I think I pushed it back in. It's been so long since I've had a problem that I'm not sure about that part. Anyway, it's been working fine for years since overheating. Don't know if yours has that safety feature built in.

Great news! Just take a deep breath and drink lots of vodka!!!

My old one fell apart the same weekend Princess Diana was killed. The one I was sent as a replacement has moved cross country and been a work horse. I didn't trust the movers (one group had removed the carrying case my old singer sewing machine came in and packed it sans case with other stuff bending the head) so the KA went into a corner with a big sign that said "DO NOT TOUCH" and traveled in my van.

I think I posted on here before, In the early 80's , I had one in a logging camp that

was so worn, the bowl would not lock on place on the base,I would hold it in place and
turn it on. Sounded like an old, old car starting up rrrrurrruhhhh and then go and do what I needed, usually cookies.
After three seasons, it got slower and sloooower, and we replaced it.
Bless KA,
Nan

I'm beginning to wonder about KA now. Last year while using

my KA Classic (purchased 12/04) the knob on the front flew off. I screwed it back on tightly & always check it before using now. Last week while whisking egg yolks (was supposed to let it whisk for 6 minutes), after 2-3 minutes of whisking at high speed, it slowed down all by itself, I guess to the lowest speed. I don't dare make dough in it, having read I think at this forum that it burned out the motors of some KA's. Ann

I've had two duds in a row. Never again. I'm impressed by the improved (or American?) customer

service. When my first one blew its motor, customer service couldn't seem to care less. Much to my dismay, throwing it in the garbage was easier than finding a box for it, carrying it to the post office (I don't drive), and mailing it to the other end of the city at MY expense. No offer of immediate replacement in good ol' Canada. Maybe that's changed, but I'll never know.

It has always been my impression that we lag waaaay behind the US in 'good' customer

service practices here. But I do think we're improving slowly. I'm always willing to give a call to the manufacturer or the retailer, though. And I too, get really ticked with that delivery cost. We pay for a working appliance but when it won't function, we have to pack it, and pay for all that shipping. Not reasonable at all.

I took a KA back to the Bay and had no problem at all.

I used my KA yesterday but must say I did so very gingerly, given Deb's recent experience. I still think the old appliances are work horses. My Oster blender is now 37 years old and going strong. It also weighs 3 or 4 times what the new ones do.

Yep, mine is a vintage 25 plus and I'm loath to replace it with a color cause it works great.

Once MANY years ago I did have to take it to a repair place ( I forgot the problem, but I don't think I had to pay) and it's worked fine since.

I also have a quite old KA--it's was my mother's, and

is probably about 40 years old. Still going strong. I think of her every time I use it.

Reminds me of the time movers packed a gas leaf blower in my breakfast area hutch! They did wrap

it in one of those packing quilts first, but I still had to air that hutch out.
