Help! Need advice on that pretty little cake at SprinkleBakes...

I did some math. The area of a 9" round is 64 square inches. The area of your 12 x 15 pan is 180

(I'm disregarding the depth because I assume that would be the same in either case)

I would do a triple recipe, and perhaps have a cupcake tin ready as Meryl suggested.

It's Pi times the radius squared. So the radius of a 9" round is 4.5" The formla is

4.5 x 4.5 x 3.1416 (Pi) = 63.61

The formula for a 7" pan is 3.5 x 3.5 x 3.1416 = 38.48

A 10" round is 5 x 5 x 3.1416 = 78.54 etc.

(Of course rectangles are easier--12 x 15 = 180)

OK how's this: Half the diameter times itself times Pi. (3.1416) It's the same for all circles.

I find it so much easier to convert by square inches for cakes, casseroles, lasagna,,,,

anything that is basically flat. And it's nice to know the geometry Sister Phillip beat into me can come in handy.

Oy - geometry - my worst subject - I could never get it. Good for you for remembering the formula!

I know some people hate math. I love it. It makes me feel that there is order in the universe

or at least among my cake pans.
