Here comes the holiday weekend.

Ha-ha-ha!! Thanks for the funny EPIsode Mar. Only you could conjure up that memory.... yes,

- ahem!! That....(caugh!) "vaguely" sounded familiar!

What a great interrogation device to use on bad men!

LOL, or arm the flight marshals with these for a non-firing weapon. these were as painfully dumb as

the self-piercing earrings. anyone else use those to pierce their ears? I am ashamed to admit that I, my 2 sisters and my cousin all used the same pair to brutally pierce our ears, slowly. It took about 2 weeks to go through the ear, and by the end we were pinching them ourselves to make it go faster. ow,ow,ow. How stupid was that??

Oooh, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I took the rest of the batch to work and everyone raved...

This is my new favorite ice cream. smileys/smile.gif

I know this sounds odd, but it was very good. REC: Dill Pickle Salsa

We had this with burgers and hot dogs, and loved it.

NOTES : Amy's note: This is one out of my recipe files from Gourmet class. We had to come up with something "different". What's more different than salsa made with a dill pickle? But, it is good, even if I do say so myself. It's not hot, but if you prefer a hotter salsa, use the hot dill pickles. The yield will depend on the size of your tomato.

Dawn this sounds great ~ do you use is as a dip besides and a topping ~ is it good with chips?

I want to make this for Memorial Day picnic ~ but want to know if to use as a topping or put it with chips ~ Can't pass this one up

I don't think it would be good on chips, but I have seen dill pickle potato chips

before, so who knows. For me, it is definitely a hamburger or hot dog topping. That's how I would use it. On hot dogs it is great.
My mom used to make us Coney Dogs, which for her were hot dogs topped with diced tomatoes, red onion and lettuce, then of course ketchup and mustard. This reminded me of that.

I made this ice cream this past weekend...

The texture was unbelievably creamy, but I'm not so sure I loved the flavor. If only I could find a recipe for chocolate ice cream with that same texture, I would be in heaven.

I have a great chocolate ice cream recipe from Dorie Greenspan - will post if you're interested.

Is it the Chocolate Ganache Ice Cream from her Baking book?

If so, I have the book and will be sure to give it a try -- after I get over eating the 2 cups of heavy cream from the lemon ice cream. If it's not the Chocolate Ganache recipe, I would love to try another one. Thanks.

Yes it is, but... there are a few tips I should mention to you - One is to definitely

strain the custard before adding to the chocolate mixture. She failed to include this step in her instructions, which is inexcusable, since it's the most important step in making custard - without it, you end up with pieces of cooked egg! Also, I added 1/2 tsp vanilla to the base, and it really rounded out the flavor. Here's a link to the posted recipe with my notes.

Thanks, Meryl, for the tips...

When I read the recipe, I thought it was strange that she didn't strain the custard. I have actually made chocolate ice cream with bits of egg in it. Not good. I thought maybe Dorie was just better at making custard than I am. I'll be straining mine. Thanks for the tip about the vanilla, too.
