How do I handle this??? A friend my DH works with gave

Good idea... if she asks. I'd always rather someone told me honestly - I put a lot of effort

into each dish I make and I tell people that unless they want it again - and again - and again - that they'd better give me an honest assessment. People do, and I'm so grateful as I want them to truly enjoy it.

I've learned that even when someone says they want your "honest" opinion, they really don't. I mean

what do you think someone wants to hear when they say "do you think my butt looks fat in this?"

While in certain situations honesty might be the best policy, unless you've got something positive to say, most of the time, they actually DON'T want to hear it.

Try giving performance notes to actors on a couple hundred shows and you'll see what I mean. Sigh.

I guess I'm an enigma - I just want people to truly enjoy what I make and there's almost always

room for improvement....

now.... about my butt.... LIE LIE LIE!!!

No, you're not alone... I would appreciate it if someone saud something like

"That cinnamon is a little strong" or "How about adding more vanilla to it" - especially if someone asked for my opinion on the dish.

But I definately would NOT take my own version of the recipe to the meeting... yikes!)

I'm sorry, Mean One. Please don't hit me again. Besides, it was Barbara! You're so cruel!

I'm low on plum and out of fig entirely.

I'm thinking if she gave you a sample & asked for feedback, maybe she was unsure? I'd rather my

my friends tell me something like, "I like where this is going. I've got a recipe you might like to try."

Or ask, "Do you think it needs something?" To open the dialog...

I'd rather people be upfront and honest with me, especially when I asked for feedback. I also like the fact that you have an alternate recipe that might work better. (Potential problem? Here's a solution...)

"Yes that's right! I AM Crew-well...and see that you don't forget it!"

Well done, bud. That ought to fix any thoughts of my kindness!

We'll figure out how to get you more preserves soon. Remember, this is strictly entre nous!
