I did it and it works (never doubted you, doubted MYSELF though...)
Luisa....open TRASH and select ALL of them, then select DELETE again
You should get a pop-up message asking if you want to delete the messages.
It actually takes 2 steps to remove PMs:
1. Select from Inbox or Sent and then DELETE which puts them in TRASH (which is also part of the total 100 we can have)
2. Select all in TRASH and select DELETE again.
