I finally got myself geared up for holiday baking

Not sure when we'll get it here, would love reviews when someone goes to see it!! Looks like fun

Ang, I have standard Dachshunds...

They are a medium-sized dog with short legs. They weigh 30 lbs. They're like snails, they unwind and stretch. A standard dachshund can reach about 1 ft. into a standard counter when he stretches up and there is a stick of butter within 1-ft of the edge of the counter. I couldn't believe it the first time it happened, but it is now my reality.

Tim, on the other hand hasn't quite adapted to this reality. In October, Loki took out the top tier of a just finished wedding cake 4 hours before the wedding. It was quick wedding cake rebaking and decorating at that point. When I asked who did it, Siegfried said, "not me" and was pointing at Loki, who also was saying "not me" but had icing smeared all over his fuzzy face and was blowing bubbles out of his beard. I had to laugh he looked so funny.

Then, last week, a pumpkin roll was placed in the middle of the table and "someone" managed to get the corner and drag it to the edge. That was also 4 hours before the dinner party where it was to be served.

Do you have a dachshund? If you've got the miniature size, you won't have anything to worry about, if you have the standard size, you need to start worrying about your butter (and cake, and...)

We had a dachshund/terrier mix when I was living at home

(Missy looked like a dachshund on steroids.) They are smart little buggers, and she was very resourceful. She somehow conned the cat into knocking things off the counter so she could enjoy them. They were quite the team! Mom learned fast to never turn her back on any open food.

we have a mini labradoodle---she outweighs your fellas by about 10 pounds. she hasn't figured out

the "I bet I can reach that on the counter" stance yet. I actually keep packs of butter by the back door---metal stoop stays very cool-- and she hasn't touched those yet. she mostly just steals socks and hopes I drop something when cooking.

When I am cooking, chopping things and such, all three dogs are behind me,

and I noticed that the Golden doesn't look up to watch what I am doing, she keeps her eyes peeled on the floor to see what drops on the floor. She gets about 75% of the droppage.

My German Shepherd Fricka, on the other hand was such a good girl...

she never grabbed any food. As a matter of fact, she absolutely adored roast chicken. That was her favorite food. I could sit the chicken on the counter, go have dinner, and Fricka would stand guard over the chicken, sitting perfectly at attention in front of the counter to make sure nothing happened to that bird while we were eating dinner.

Of course, she always got a nice serving of chicken with all the doggie parts after dinner as a reward.

Ha, an accident waiting to happen. trip over the dog(s) and knock yourself out. another reason the

kitchen is the most dangerous place in the house.

Trust me, that has already happened too many times.

The youngest one especially just has no idea of personal space. She is learning though, the yelp that comes out of my mouth when I am flailing, has finally trained her to keep out of the way, at least most of the time.

My friend's dog King ate an entire blueberry cobbler that was a gift from a neighbor, including part

of the pan! Poor Lovi was scraping up the broken corningware pan off the slate floor and realized that there wasn't enough pan pieces. Then King woofled up some of the cobbler and there in the mess was a shard of glass. In a panic she took the dog to the vet and King was just fine, even though he ate several shards of the dish. Worried for a while though!

Then she has to explain to the neighbor why she was getting a brand new pan back, hilarity ensured. Now the whole neighborhood knows the dog as "Cobbler King".
