I just bought Alice Medrich's "Bittersweet" at the Friends of the Library sale for a buck!

To tell the truth, I didn't really want it myself but I heard people mention it here so

after I look through it whoever wants it can have it for the postage.

I'll be more than willing to pay not only postage but more!

I'm just not willing to pay what they seem to go for on ebay.

It's been on my list for years but every time I check, they are going for unreal prices. I've lucked up on some good ones at our friends sale as well as this fairly new super big used bookstore but it's still one that has alluded me.

Well then this is your lucky day! PM me your address and when I have done

with reading it, I'll send it along. I think I can get media rate for a hardback, right? That's really all I need.

Meryl, I saw the perfect gift bag for you. It was a scratch-and-sniff chocolate gift bag that

I found at Kmart. I think it was made by American Greetings. If you want one and can't find one, let me know )

MCM, could you Xerox her brownie recipe for me, pretty please?? It's the one

that is baked briefly, then placed in a bowl of ice water.

Could you also include the intro into the brownie section where other details are provided? My library doesn't have this in their system and the time I ordered it through inter-library loan was before I knew about this particular methodology.

Online versions leave out several important steps, like heating the sugar mixture to a specific temperature (otherwise you end up with gritty brownies.)

This same recipe is also another of her books, but again, without all the oh so necessary details.

DJM kindly helped out with most of the details (see link), so my first (and only) batch worked out, other than my doubling it and then not doubling the pan. But it would be nice to have the actual text as reference.

You got a great deal! Luisa, this is very generous of you.
