I just tried my first can of San Marzano tomatoes and was less than

I can't find CI's imported comparison - only this link which will only take you as far as the

domestic contenders and then require you to sign up for a trial offer.

I've noticed through the years that CI doesn't usually test foreign foodstuffs, high end or foreign cookware or gadgets.

I'm just curious where you saw CI's foreign and domestic tomato taste testing comparisons.

Hahah, yes, it says DOP and also a tiny little yellow label that I couldn't

read because I didn't have my glasses when I tried to read it. Either that, or it was in Italian. (I hate when that happens!)

Will go back and look at it again later.

It was "Wegmans" brand. Usually trustworthy. Just an aside... does anyone else in the country know about the Alec Baldwin connection to Wegmans? His mother lives here in Syracuse with her daughter (Alec's only sister) and she is an advocate (and survivor) for breast cancer research. They did a commercial together for Wegmans last month, and there was a big stink about taking it off the air after his meltdown in the airplane.

So they took it off. For 3 days. Then there was an even bigger stink about the fact that they took the commercial off the air because she is well-liked in the area. So now it's back on tv.

Personally I don't see what they big deal was about texting while the plane wasn't even moving, but I don't know all of the specifics.

Interesting...I haven't used canned SM tomatoes, but...

I've grown them 2 years now. I didn't notice any bitterness. They're supposed to have a smaller seed cavity and less moisture than other tomatoes, and I can say that's pretty much true...they're also a LOT smaller than I anticipated! For the effort, I'm planning to grow two canning varieties this year, then "taste off" after canning.

I do have to say that my own canned chopped tomatoes (very chunky) is making better salsa than what's available in the market.
