ISO: I know this has been asked 100 times, but maybe you all have more... ISO Unconventional breakfasts

In Search Of:
right now, melon with hot coppa, blueberry crisp with yogurt, eggs with

rice scrambled in, rice cakes with peanut or almond butter. leftovers, particularly roast pork or chicken.

every now and then, I pay the piper and have a croissant or oatmeal/buttermilk pancake.

my all time favorite breakfast, back in NYC, was dim sum!

Martha Stewart says she eats salmon every morning for breakfast, and mine

are usually pretty boring. The pork was a change... definately not my usual. I got raised eyebrows from DH, until I assured him I didn't add syrup with it, and even then... lol.

I like the chicken idea, thanks!

Until this minute, I didn't know that Dim Sum was actually a variety of

Chinese appetizers! I thought it was a specific food.

Any favorites, easy-to-make, maybe? Or should I just save leftovers from Chinese take out. Thanks for enlightening me!

search for the thread on the steamed buns, these can be filled with any combination

of meats/veggies for great dim sum.

I have a recipe for Irish Breakfast fruit crisp. basically a fruit crisp with some dried fruits

added to the fresh and served with whipped cream or vanilla yogurt.

oh... I LOVE char shu bao! Dawn, dim sum is small bites and a lot of dim sum are dumplings. if you

remind me in a couple of weeks I can post some recipes for you. the dumplings are usually wrapped in dough so there is wheat and carbs involved. I'm guessing you need low carb stuff right now?

For about the last 5 years, this has been my staple breakfast... it keeps me full until lunch

Cut up 1/4 apple (Fuji, Granny Smith, your choice), plus half a small banana and half an orange. Toss them together in a bowl. Top with 1/2 cup plain yogurt and 2 Tbl. chopped toasted almonds. If you like it sweeter, drizzle on a little honey.

For some reason this fruit salad is just addicting - it's also good with cottage cheese instead of yogurt, and you can use your favorite fruit.

I usually stuff my jalepenos with a mixture of bulk raw sausage and cheese

(grated sharp chedar) then wrap in bacon and BBQ- sometimes brush with a little BBQ sauce right before they are done to caramelize- Decadent!!

Also I LOVE bacon wrapped asparagus spears- sprinkle with a little brown sugar and then grill on the BBQ-yummmmm

Uncle Sam's comes in a red, white, and blue box. . .

and consists of rolled wheat, toasted with a very small amount of something like rice syrup and flaxseed. Not very sweet at all, which is why I eat it with the Barbara's Shredded Oats (which to me taste somewhat like graham crackers). Ya have to chew pretty well or the flaxseed comes out whole. . . smileys/smile.gif

Yes, low"ish" carbing now, except for my occasional Little Debbies for breakfast - tsk, tsk.

I did do a google search, but thought I'd get some tried and true from you. Thanks! I will remind you ;o)

Oh, I see some now. The first post that came up was mine! Obviously I didn't

think steamed buns were dim sum at that time! I was referred to the little dessert-type things served in Chinese restaurants when I posted that. Now I know dim sum are those filled with savory stuffs. Thanks Ang.

for a low carb treat, make eggs benedict and instead of the muffin, slip the poached

egg into a nest of steamed spinach and pour on the hollandaise. also, eggs florentine are another real treat.

low carbing can make you feel very deprived and these types of dishes make you feel like you've gone to heaven!

if I think of more, I'll let you know. breakfast is my most difficult meal. also, when I make a crisp, I don't use sugar in the fruit. apples, pears and peaches, none. some berries need a bit and I use Xyitol. the topping, I throw walnuts or peacans in the processor with oats, cinnamon and butter. I rarely add flour. I can tolerate the oats if the topping is light. no more than 2 tbls per serving.

for another breakfast treat, I make Rao's cheesecake, with my sugar sub. for the crust, just ground nuts patted into the buttered pan. oh my! think I need to make one tonight!

I love this...

I use cottage cheese, a half apple cut up, drizzle with honey, top with sunflowers seeds, raisins and a sprinkling of cinnamon. Yum! It's good for lunch too.
