I learn something new every day--this morn it was about how 2 shuck corn. C link of video below..

That is slick and for those of us that do not have a microwave:

Years ago, at our wedding reception, we soaked whole ears of corn, shucks and all, silk still on, then baked in the oven and after all the ears were hot, we used rubber gloves shuck for serving. Virtually all of the silk came off of the ears just by peeling the shucks off in handfulls. I have done this on the barbeque/grill as well.

I am pretty lazy when it comes to whole ears of corn and I always have rubber gloves around; this is a match made in heaven.

I only micro mine. Love the taste and soo easy. My good friend does the water soak / grill

method. Very easy also, especially if you already have stuff on the grill. When I grew up, we would use a pressure cooker. I still smile when I think of the noise as it was cooking. BUT, that pot scares me!

How funny-found the same tip in a 1997 cookbook last night

I was browsing cookbooks and ran across the microwaved corn tip in the American Century Cookbook by Jean Anderson.

Sorry I didn't C yr post until now (6/4/12 @ noon)--I tried this last night & after 8 min in the

microwave on high power, 2 ears of sweet corn in the husks were perfectly cooked and ready to eat. After I cut off the end of the ear as demo'ed in the video, that little sucker slid right out SANS (i.e.,WITHOUT) a single piece of hair attached. How cool! It was delicious. It seemed like the corn steamed inside the shuck while cooking--I didn't have to soak it in water first or anything.

Now there is some coincidence, CathyZ! Yest, I did a quick 'search' on this site to make sure this

tip hadn't just been posted and didn't find anything resembling it. Then later I got to wondering if this were "common knowledge" that every cook in the world knew except me. Decided to post first and take my chances. ha!

For everyone's info--my sister has been putting UN-shucked ears of corn in the oven to bake for years, and she mentioned in a quick E-mail to me this morning (I also forwarded that video to her)that her baked corn-on-the-cob will also come out perfectly done and without the hair clinging to the cooked corn. When I get home after work tonight, I'll re-read and post her E-mail as she had temp & length of cooking time in that note as to how she bakes unshucked corn in the oven.

I do remember she said she even stacks several ears on a baking pan with sides....will get back to you on this so anyone without a microwave can enjoy the same ease of shucking.

VERY interesting, barb_b....I have never B4 heard of anyone cooking corn on the cob in a pressure

cooker. And I agree, I can still hear my mom's huge canning pressure cookers going full-tilt on the stovetop and how she'd shoo all us kids outside so if the things blew up, none of us would be hurt or scalded. She never EVER had that happen in 22 years I lived at home on the farm, but she always watched that pressure valve like a hawk.

Does this mean that it is 4 minutes per ear, so for three ears it would be twelve minutes?

I bought corn today just so I could try this out. My son will be so happy!

correct. he did 2 ears for 8 minutes. would depend on the wattage of your microwave too. some may

take longer.
