I like our Saturday/weekend Six so I'll start it off:

Weekend Six

Quiet day today, but I need to get in the kitchen and bake some cookies. Which ones?

I just heard about a Mexican restaurant that serves ceviche tostadas. It sounds promising.

I am going to the Farmer's Market meeting on Saturday to hopefully get started up in the market again. It is a very small market so I am not sure about it yet.

I just got back from the Mexican restaurant I mentioned above and it was great. Not a word of English spoken the whole time I was there. I had the shrimp ceviche tostada sans tostada, a carne asada taco with a side of beans, and an iced tea. All for a whopping $8 plus tip. I regretted ordering what I did after three men came in and ordered the menudo (I have never tried it.). It was served piping hot in large bowls, with sides of roasted/grilled Anaheim chiles and homemade flour tortillas. It looked so good. Next time I am ordering the menudo.

Even though I am stuffed, I am still thinking about the menudo...lol.

I am not very enthused about making dinner tonight. I think it may be a very easy one. Some sort of soup of some kind. I thought this looked pretty good:

Weekend Sex? uh, "Six" . . . (ruh, roh!)

Okay, not going to go into it, too many gentle souls around who might not understand.

So, really, it's been all about cooking for the living and the not-so living.

1) Worked to revive two different sourdough starters. One if from the 1870's (carlsfriends.com) the other a live sample from 'Breadtopia'. Both are resisting my very best efforts, may have to 'splain the facts of going-down-the-drain to them.

2) Finally, the sourdough starters have begun to bubble, one gets another 24 hours "en boite" the other's going into a sponge for mañana.

3) Watched more of the Winter Olympics. Thoughts: Olympic Curling? Kill me. Lindsay Vonn IS a great sniveling whiner, pity she's such a babe ‘cause babe-ness is just wasted on her. Oh and Apolo Ohno WAS robbed but it's not like 9 medals are going to do more for his career than 8.

4) Baked an enormous tray of Raspberry-Shortbreads for the reception following a neighbor's memorial. Note to self. . . pan dimensions in the blog can’t possibly be right, methinks the measurements are wrong. Damned amateurs MUST be punished!

5) Worked the "carlsfriends.com" sponge into boules that began BEGGING to go into the oven. Finally put the annoying little bastards in the oven so they’d shut the eff up.

5.5) Baked a 15” Apple-Cranberry Streusel Pie (used my Le Creuset Paella pan) for same-same memorial. (I’m hoping the hell I'll be visiting for this sacrilege will be balanced by the enormity of that damned pie)

6) Cooled and sampled the boules made from carl's starter. Did not suck. Still need a bit of work but definitely sourdoughable. Up next, making the sponge out of breadtopia starter for baking Sunday. Carbs anyone?

My non-tsunami weekend six...

1) Stayed at home on Saturday morning, waiting for a tsunami to hit. Fortunately, we were spared, and it was only 3-foot waves. Got a good education about waves, and how tsunami waves are not the same as the regular waves. Our news programs give regular surf reports with wave heights, and 6 foot waves are a regular occurrence. However, tsunami waves are more like an entire river rising up, and they wrap around the coast, rather than just coming ashore and receding, so it's a lot more water!

2) Charity was supposed to come by to pick up donated household items, but state officials were asking everyone to keep non-essential travel on the roadways to a minimum, so they didn't come. Oh well, I did more spring cleaning, so the pile just grew a little bit bigger, for the next time they'll come.

3) I was supposed to go give blood at the blood bank yesterday, but didn't (see #2 - non-essential travel). Will have to re-schedule with them on Monday.

4) Party at a friend's house was cancelled, due to the evacuations, so I accompanied hubby to another dinner party. (We were going to go to the parties separately, so I guess it worked out.)

5) Everyone loved the trifle that I made - chunks of chocolate cake, layered with chocolate pudding, Cool Whip and Heath bits. It was an unintentional dessert - I meant to make a layer cake, but it didn't come out of the pan. A mistake gone good smileys/smile.gif

6) Trying to decide what to make for dinner tonite. Hubby said he might make a stir fry.

I bought TJ's mango ginger chutney when I was in St.Louis. I think it's meant to be a condiment to

curries, but sometimes a recipe will call for it. I hope it's good. Haven't opened it yet, thanks for reminding me I have it.

Any time Luisa!! New socks are fun. I'm working on fingerless gloves right now!

Harvesting Miner's lettuce was my favorite job when camping, so delicious!

I've made 5 fingerless gloves so far. I got a pattern online (not ravelry) but I had to

adjust it to taper on the little finger hand side.

This is just plain 'ol mango sauce. It says on the bottle it can be eaten "straight" out of the

jar, or used in recipes - it's the discontinued kind... those are the only ones we get (scratch-and-dent and overstocked items).

I went to a stock/overstock item place many years ago, I believe it was in Ma. It was a hoot!

Great prices; loved it. Wish we had one here....

The fun thing is that there is never the same thing there twice-well, that could be a bad thing too!
