I saw 3 things in Bed,Bath,Beyond catalogue and want to ask about them ...

I am a sucker for gadgets and off to the States and always picking some up.

1. Krustbuster - it's a square shaped thingy

that removes the crusts. Now I make lots of sandwiches for the grands when we go off on adventures and this looks good. Anyone know it?

2. Kitchen Dumpling Press - you put the dough inside and it closes up the dumpling - think my son would like this as he is into making dumplings - but does it really work?

3. Garlic chopper - it's round and you put in the

garlic and roll it and the knives inside supposedly chop up the garlic. Wondering what size pieces are. Anyone?

Thanks in advance and you can see that I really

do own tons of stuff already if this is what I

am interested in!!

Oh - any suggestions for a great gadget will be

appreciated. Maybe a gadget thread. LOL

Hi Elaine, I assume you have a Microplane zester, but if not, that's one of my favorites. Also,

I have a great jar opener, and a great jar opener/twist top bottle opener I got from Amazon. Don't know if Bed Bath and Beyond sells them, though.

I have a gyoza press that sounds similar to the dumpling press,

and it works like a charm. I just place the gyoza wrapper on the press, add the filling and close it. It seals it perfectly. You just have to make sure you don't put on too much filling.

The gyoza press/dumpling press is great. A small piece of ruberized shelf liner serves as my jar

opener. It doesn't take up any room in the drawer either.

You can use the blunt end of a "church key" bottle opener to pop the lid

of a stubborn pickle or jam jar. I wish I had known this years ago, I'd have spilled a lot less pickle juice muscle-ing the jar open the old screw top way.

Yes, that's the one I have and I love it. I had one without the long handles

and I couldn't stand that one.

I agree with the microplane... my fave! The Krustbuster might be fun 'cause the kids can use that

Elaine, the jar pop is absolutely worth every penny. My mom raved about them

and finally bought me one. Works better than the blunt end of a church key. Opens all but the thickest lids like a dream. I love mine.

two other gadgets that I don't use too often but love when I do are my

Zyliss peeler for soft skinned things. Works well on peaches, tomatoes etc. I also enjoy my zester thingidingy. It looks like a peeler but makes very fine strips. Nice to do fat carrots with or any root veggie or citrus.

This is what I do also Pat. I just gently pry up a little in about 3 places

around the edge of the lid. It will gently pop the seal. Works like a charm.

I've tried the garlic chopper and it works well at mincing garlic. It only does a few cloves

at a time, which I find easy enough to do with a knife. If it did a larger volume I'd be tempted to buy one.

two more I used today but from Sur la Tabe. I don't know if BBB carries them

Onion Goggles. A miracle for sure

big, red plastic "hands" to toss messy things like broccoli salad or make meatloaf mix.

Not really the same. No rubber strap to get caught in your hair with the onion goggles

and I find them much more comfortable than the swimming goggles I used to use.
