I was at tea yesterday, and we were discussing things that remind us of spring

I said the daffodils and lil white wedding bell flowers. (I don't think that is the proper name).

Anyway, my friend said Fiddleheads. It made me smile, because it is a fun name. Occurred to me that I have NEVER had them.

So, questions, what reminds you of spring? What do fiddleheads taste like?

Fiddleheads are the emerging unfurled leaf of a new fern. They are amazing

Just under my kitchen window, we have a large, raised planting area full of plants that emerge in the spring, I adore it. Right now I have wild orchids, the fiddleheads, and other numerous plants peeking up to check the weather. Everyday is a new sight.

I would never cut my fiddleheads off simply for consumption, I love my ferns, they make me happy.

Daffodils, Spiraea, redbuds. My sister was born in March and Mom

always talks about how the redbuds & wisteria were blooming when she was born.

ditto. And hyacinths. Two of my favorite scents in the world. (the third is rose)

My lilacs are in full bloom and I must go over and bury my nose in the flowers a couple dozen times per day.

Lilacs are one of the few flowers that won't grow in SoCal, so of course they are one of my favorite

Peonies too. I'm so jealous.

I think there is just enough frost in the central valley to make them bloom. We get no sympathy

down here for our mild winters and our snapdragons on Christmas but see, there are always drawbacks.

Surely I can't be the only one who loves the sight of these flowers, but hates the scent?

I used to get queasy walking down the block when I was young...turns out lilacs were in bloom. Here in Florida, the same thing happens when orange blossoms are in bloom. I can get nauseated from 2 blocks away. I can't use rose water or orange blossom water for ethnic dishes either.

And lavender! Oh dear...once that bloom became the "IT" girl of the botanical society, my sinuses blew up into migraines.
