Awwww...he IS gorgeous! And I think he KNOWS it! See if you can

get him to play fetch for some exercise...one of our cats, Kermit, plays "ring game" with us...he LOVES fetching (we use a plastic ring from a Gatorade bottle) and he drops it at our feet. He will do this for 20 minutes, no lie! Oldest son did not believe me until he visited over the holidays. We tell Kermit "Good Doggy! Good retriever!" Sometimes, when we throw the ring up the hallway (linoleum floor), when he gets it, he does a forward roll, too! The other morning, he shot it under the bathroom door while I was putting my makeup on before work. The cat who thinks he's a dog!

Marsha...I had a Maine Coon too! Hummer could be Phil's twin...

only Phil weighted in at 21 pounds! We found him lost as a kitten and he fit in to the palm of my hand. Phil had the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen anywhere.

He was so big, a full-grown Doberman Pinscher actually backed away from him once.

So...has Hummer demanded premiere seating now that he's a star?

Marilyn, Hummer is 4 yrs. old...Someone dropped him off in a basket at a euthenasia place.

Some 'angel' there realized what a real jewel of a kitty he is and called the humane society to come get him. I know he's a gift from God...my orange tabby had died 3 mos. earlier; my girlfriend just told me I needed to get another cat and told of the website to the humane society where she lives (Webster)...there Hummer was...on the first page of their website. It was Christmas by this time. We went and as you say, he fit in our hands. He touched noses with us right away, we knew that he was ours! smileys/smile.gif Is your Phil gone already? Maybe he was the father? or a cousin???

Val, he's not a fetcher and half-heartedly bats at balls. His preference is being inside a sack,

batting at things on the outside of the bag. He's a real riot when bags are around.

Yep. Died from kidney failure. I think it was actually...

his reaction to Florida fleas and the treatments we gave him for relief.

We found him as a kitten when we lived in Albuquerque, NM and they don't have a flea problem there because it's so dry. He was there for 6 years, then lived with my parents in Pittsburgh for 3 years.

Phil got a terrible reaction from flea bites when we moved here. When I asked the vet how other cats can be outside, he said Florida cats have a natural immunity to the bites. But since Phil wasn't from Florida, he had no immunity.

He was beautiful, but sort of distainful. Not a very loving cat like Capezio, who lived until he was 24!

Wow, Marilyn...24 years; I hope I have him that long. My vet wants me to have him for a long time so

that's why she wants me to keep his weight lower.

I've never seen a cat with a luminous coat. It's gorgeous and sooo soft. Everyone who touches him

notices how different his fur is.

maybe being luminous helps him hunt at night? smileys/wink.gif) btw, if you put his food

dish at the end of tread mill he might get more excerise. I'm going to try that with the neighbor's cat who spends most of his time with us. he'll do anything for food and could use to lose a pound or two '-))

Val - my cat does the same thing - or I should say USED to chase and bring

back milk rings, pipe cleaners, andthing that would skip and bounce when you threw it. Now he's over 20 lbs and he barely moves, except to go to the kitchen to eat.

We've tried not "free-feeding" him, but our other cat is a perfect weight, and they eat from the same bowl. I know we should feed that one less, or get him to exercise more, but it's pretty futile unless you want to be bugged to death from him asking for food.

Any suggestions on how to get him to play more, anyone?

Marsha, beautiful baby there!

that's a tough one with more than one cat Dawn. if you can put up with the

constant begging for a couple of weeks, they will both get used to a certain feeding time each day. most of the time, it just takes a week to get into the new routine.

we have 6 and when Jessie had some teeth pulled he could only eat wet food for a week. I had to give them all wet food since I couldn't seperate them out. each got a heaping tsp and Jessie got morein the morning and evening.

of course, once started it has been impossible to stop and they line up in the morning for the treat. I've tried stopping it completely but Jessie becomes a homicidal maniac and runs in front of my feet when I'm walking. it's easier to give them the bit of the can and ensure my continued existance..... '-))
